De La Salle will face Canyon in the Division I contest of the 2006 CIF State Championship Bowl Games. (By Dennis Lee)
MaxPreps Staff Report<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:City>CARSON</st1:City>, <st1:State>Calif.</st1:State></st1:place> --- The wait is over. After 79 years of anticipation, six teams will take the field at the <st1:place><st1:placeType>Home</st1:placeType> <st1:placeName>Depot</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType>Center</st1:placeType></st1:place> next Saturday in the first CIF State Championship Bowl Games.

<o:p></o:p>
CIF Executive Director Marie M. Ishida announced the participants Sunday, and after intense statewide debate in recent weeks, there were no real surprises. MaxPreps, among other media outlets, had all six teams pegged a week ago.

<o:p></o:p>
In Division I, North Coast Section juggernaut De La Salle (13-0) will face Canyon (11-2) of the Southern Section, one of the hottest teams in the state in recent weeks.

<o:p></o:p>
The Division II matchup will feature <st1:City><st1:place>Palo Alto</st1:place></st1:City> (12-1) of the Central Coast Section, and a battle-tested Orange Lutheran (13-1) squad, fresh off wins over <st1:City><st1:place>San Clemente</st1:place></st1:City>, <st1:City><st1:place>Compton</st1:place></st1:City>, Long Beach Poly, and <st1:place>Edison</st1:place> in the Southern Section Pac-5 playoffs.

<o:p></o:p>
Cardinal Newman (13-1), another North Coast Section school, and Oaks Christian (14-0), currently riding a 45-game win streak, will face off in the Division III game.

<o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
“I was impressed with the selection committee,” Event Director Ken Gunn said in a press release Sunday. “They showed depth of knowledge, thorough evaluation of all potential entrants and worked exceptionally well together. We’re going to have three great football games next week.”

<o:p></o:p>
The committee considered all 47 section champions, pairing it down to six based on win-loss record, strength-of-schedule, head-to-head competition, and common opponents. The CIF was careful to note that margin of victory and anticipated fan support were not a factor.

<o:p></o:p>
All three games will be played Saturday at the <st1:place><st1:placeType>Home</st1:placeType> <st1:placeName>Depot</st1:placeName> <st1:placeType>Center</st1:placeType></st1:place>, with the Division III game at <st1:time Minute="0" Hour="11">11 a.m.</st1:time>, Division II at <st1:time Minute="0" Hour="15">3 p.m.</st1:time>, and Division I at 7:30 p.m. All games will be broadcast live on FSN Prime Ticket and FSN Bay Area.

<o:p></o:p>
MaxPreps will provide daily updates and in-depth looks at each team throughout the week.

What was the Edison game that was on Saturday? I thought that was a CIF Championship game, unless it was smaller schools.

I'd like to see some of the top notch Cal teams go up against the top Texas schools.

CIF D1 was a monster this year

16 very good teams, # 10 team would win any state title in country.

Edison, Servite, MAter Dei, Los Al, LB Poly, Compton, Rancho Santa Margarita, Esperanza, Oh Lou, all better than anything on Espn this year.

You shoud check out the state of Florida sometime - if you don't have a chance just turn the TV on any given fall Sunday - they just won't be in high school anymore.

Best high school football? Try Texas and Florida. Southlake Carroll would annihilate any of those teams. By 10+ points at that.

That being said, I'd love to see lines on these games. Might drive up to Carson to watch them live :D

PS - Don't be so sure that Clausen is starting next year. By no means a sure thing, we have 3 excellent QBs who have already had a year with Weis (in Sharpley's case, 2 years).

When did Brady win the Heisman? Was I absent that day?

There is an 8th grade game coming up this weekend near where I live. These teams are perceived equal, fairly anyway, but are not even close. One will beat the other by at least 14.

How can I get Olympic to post a line? Is it as easy as what you have done (asking) Railbird?

Typical Railbird..... Not only didn't Brady win it, but Alex Smith, Elway and AD aren't on the list of Heisman Trophy winners. Nice try Rail, but stick with tennis and Little League baseball, ok? You've shown that your knowledge of football rivals my 8 yr old niece.
