I don't understand why you guys think it was a fumble. Looked pretty clear that he was hit from behind as his arm was going forward to pass the ball. Certainly the hit effected where the ball went, but the way I understand the rule if the arm is going forward then it's considered a pass. Maybe you don't like the rule as written, but certainly the refs followed the rule correctly. That's all you can ask.
