In light of Fish's thread with his unbiased :lolBIG: opinion that the Big 10 is the most dominant conference in Foots and baskets this thread will talk about the most dominate schools in NCAA history considering all sports.

I give you the Texas Longhorns.

Back when Stanford was good at basketball, didn't they always rank #1 as the top athletic program?

There's an award they give out each year to the most successful one, I'm sure you can find it online.

I was going to mention Stanford. I am pretty sure Stanford has the most Sears cups.

Probably counting EVERY sport.......mens and womens.........STANFORD comes to mind immediately.

Lots of schools in the south AND west come to mind.............because of the weather(track, golf, baseball, swimming).

or maybe a better question would be best football/basketball combo over our lifetimes since we are mainly football basketball fans?

When you think of the top 10 in each, it just might be Michigan, very few schools have top ten elite teams in both sports, which is surprising.

Stanford won its 12th straight Directors' Cup with national championships in women's cross country and tennis....... and runner-up finishes in women's indoor track and field and men's water polo. The Cardinal placed 11 additional teams in the top 10.

The NACDA Directors' Cup is an award given annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics to the colleges and universities with the most success in collegiate athletics. Points for the NACDA Director's Cup are based on order of finish in various NCAA sponsored championships or in the case of Division I Football media base polls. The award originated in 1993, and was presented to NCAA Division I schools only. In 1995, it was extended to Division II, Division III, and NAIA schools as well, each division receiving its own award.
Stanford University has won the award for the best Division I collegiate athletics program for 12 straight years, winning 12 out of the 13 years it has been offered. Williams College has similarly dominated Division III, having won the award 10 times.
Princeton University has consistently been the highest ranking non-scholarship school in the Division I rankings. In Division II, UC Davis won six of the first eight awards, but its athletic program moved to Division I in 2003 and Grand Valley State won the award the following three years. The NAIA division was similarly dominated by Simon Fraser University of British Columbia in its early years, but in 2002, SFU transferred several of its sports programs to Canada's college athletics federation, Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Since then, no single school has been able to dominate the NAIA division, and SFU itself remains competitive despite not fielding a full complement of NAIA teams.
The physical award is a Waterford crystal trophy. Prior to 2003, the sponsor of the NACDA Directors' Cup was retail merchandiser Sears, and the award was known as the Sears Cup. Beginning in the 2003-2004 season, the sponsor has been the United States Sports Academy.

The teams that generally place top 5 or so in the Sears cup standings are Stanford, UCLA, NC, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Penn State, and Michigan

WVU is ranked 3rd in Co-ed sports nationally. I know most of you were dying to know their ranking in that.
