All year long I was hearing Pulhos has had the greatest first 5 years in baseball history. Ithink 4 or 5 players have had better first 5 years and one player 1st 5 yrs stands above all the rest. Guys chime in!

Ted Williams started with 4 stellar seasons batted .406 in his 3rd season , then left for the war for the next 3 years, came back and picked up right where he left off.

Di Maggio, Williams and Joe Jackson who batted .408 and .395 his first two years but played in the dead ball era, definitely had as good or better overall stats as the Cardinal first basemen. Jimmy Foxx also did but I think another player also in the Hall topped them all!

Pitchers today are much better than they were before. Pujols is having the best 5 years a player has ever had.

The original question wasn't who has had the best 5 years but who has had the best first 5 years (of their career). I agree completely, it's Pujols.

Here is who I had in mind! Chuck Klein 1st full season 1929
1929 - Broke National League Home Run Record of Rogers Hornsby with 43 hit .356 with 145 RBI's
1930 - Batted .386, become 1st National League to hot 40 HR's 2 seasons in a row, 170 RBI's and broke record for Runs in NL with 158 that record still stands
1931- Batted .337 led league in HR's & RBI's
1932- Batted .348 led league in HR's had 137 RBI's became and still is the only ballplayer to lead league in HR's & Stolen Bases in the same year
1933- Won the Triple Crown .368 BA

Chuck Klein , you rarely hear his name mentioned...he did play a half a season that first year so skipping that you could throw him in there for sure...He appeared to be a late bloomer too.

His second full season is one of the top ten seasons in MLB history IMO.

158 runs , 250 hits ! 59 2B's, 40 HR's, 170 RBI, .386 AVG, a year very few ever read about.
