UFN 8 - Ultimate Fight Night 8

MMA betting is a whole different breed of betting. Even if it's high odds, sometimes the fighters are just that much better than the other to win it.

1/2 unit - Menne - value bet, I think Luigi wins this, but it's there because of the value.
2 units - Joslin - really good value on Joslin, the best fighter Kos has faced yet.
2 units - Valimaki
1 unit - Jorge Santiago

Follow me, Fade me, I don't care. I'd just want more insight.
MMA is big. It will get bigger. Make money before the bookies get smart.

PLEASE, PLEASE, I IMPLORE YOU, PRACTICE BANKROLL MANAGEMENT.

good luck, going against ya with Koschek as the safest bet of the night.

Interesting odds for Riggs and Menne, both tough vets that could win.

sen, why do you figure Koscheck is the safest bet of the night?? Joslin is a very good and accomplished fighter, many MMA fans out there have been waiting for him to make his UFC debut, I certainly don't think he will be a pushover here by any means, but you never know in MMA I guess.

More a play on Koscheck, overrated him for sure. He still needs a lot of work on his standup. Wasn't sold on Joslin, but impressed with his performance tonight. Difference in standup between the two was huge, but Koscheck was unstoppable with the takedowns.

0 - 5 for the night. :lolBIG:

A pretty mediocre event if you ask me. No announcements. No Prelim fights shown. Only thing that saved it from being a very crappy event was Diego KTFO'ing Riggs.

Update my new record soonish.

Wanker, I agree. One of things that Pride does better than UFC is giving more matches. Granted, they only had 2 hours and a PPV to promote (which is their main reason for having these Spike TV events), but Pride puts like 13 matches on their shows and UFC only has 5, maybe 6 and an extra prelim fight to fill time.

Cmon now fellas, apples and oranges. How many Pride fights are on TV.....for FREE? UFC has their marketing technique....Pride has theirs, I think UFC is winning by a landslide. MMA would not be the fastest growing sport in the world without UFC doing it the way they are doing it....and the apples are starting to fall off the Pride tree. In the end, the result will be better, more skilled fighters stepping into the ring.

To me, the smaller UFC fight night cards and TUF makes the big UFC and Pride PPV something to look forward to, and those cards are usually going to be filled with great fighters (not necessarily great fights), so its a win win.

BTW, I thought two of the fights tonight were dogs, but the Parisyan/Fickett fight was great, and obviously it's a joy to see someone get kneed to sleep.

I liked the Karo-Fickett fight as well. Koscheck does what he always does, lay n' pray. Shonie looked really old in there tonight. Diego is for real even though the Sherdoggers hate on him for some reason. I think Diego should get the title shot before Hughes. They are pushing this Hughes-GSP rematch (next April in Montreal) too quickly. Make us what for it to build up the anticipation. You don't have to strike while the iron is hot every time.

It looks like a couple of the prelims were good. I'll have to download those tomorrow. I'm not bitching all that much. I like both orgs.

I am worried though that Vince "The Devil" McMahon is actually considering purchasing PRIDE from DSE. I believe there is a God, but if that happens, I will really start to question it. I like that Zuffa bought WFA, in essence for Rampage, Lindland, Herring, etc. I was complaining more about the PPV since we shell out $$$ for that. I do think the upcoming one (UFC 66) has potential and a bonafide main event that I want to see, plus the possibility that Mirko is coming to the octagon. I pray that happens.

Mirko and others, but I'm sure we read the same crap at sherdog. Totally agree with you about GSP/Hughes III....Why? You could match up GSP with BJ and Hughes with Sanchez and have a mini-tourney...the WW class would be set for 07.

Koscheck took a step backwards tonight. Did what he had to to win, but it is clearly evident against top talent he is going to resort to his wrestling skills and hope for a win. He is not top 5, that's for sure, don't evenknow if he is top 10.

Now watch Serra beat GSP!

Actually before Pride lost their TV deal, they showed the entire card on Japan TV for free.

Anyway, I can agree that you put the "lesser" fighters on the UFN card, but that's not how it works. We get it on the PPV's as well.

This isn't about which organization is better, it's about whether or not it was a good televised event. I do not think it was good. Mediocre at best.

The thing about UFC WW is that the Top three, Penn, Hughes, GSP are a step above the rest. Koscheck is for sure in the Top 10. If not, please name the top ten in the UFC.

The key there is Japan TV for free. I agreee with your opinion, but if you look at the bigger picture of things, the UFC way of doing things is why the sport is blowing up (or one of the ways, there are countless others). We are the exception....Hardcore fans like you and me and Hoosier and half of Japan will sit and watch 6 hours of MMA...(I've sat and watched the entire season of TUF as the lead in before the finals....twice).

As for Kos....the top 4 would probably beat him 9 out of 10 times. He is in the mix with the next level of WWs (Fitch, Karo, Serra, Diaz, Fickett, etc.) so yeah, he is probably top 10. He still hasn't fought anybody yet, and maybe Joslin is better than I thought he was going to be. I'd like to see him fight Karo or Diaz next time out, then let him have a go at either Penn or Diego.

Good luck on UFC 66

keep your head up wanker. mma is a tough sport to use value picks on. especially ultimate fight nights and ultimate fighter finales, as they're mainly used to build records of potential future stars. it's a lot easier to play values on pay per view cards, as the fights are usually more even (record and experience wise).
