He may wanna go to Texas though so I don't blame the Jays for opening up the checkbook and try to attract him that way.

Do Toronto players pay taxes to both Canada and the US on their money? If so, maybe that is why this offer is so obscene.

I think they get salary in US dollars and only pay taxes in Canada

I don't think that's right, because as a US resident, you are only allowed to make like 75K tax free in another country. I would bet the US guys are paying US taxes on the amount over the exemption.

You are right they pay two sets of taxes and it is also based on the number of days a player is here so the second the season is over every player gets the hell out of town. This contract offer is really a PR move since if Vernon says no the Jays can save face when they trade him but really that is why this offer "leaked" to the media.

MVP caliber? You mean like for the entire league? What? He had a career year last season and still managed just #17 in the AL in OPS. He wasn't in the top 10 in any offensive category.
