yep, the next great Canadian player. The kid is the real deal.

Very special.

Team Canada (upper 'management') in all their wisdon left Crosby, E Staal, J Spezza and D Phaneuf off the Olympic Team a year ago......paid DEARLY as we were old and slow at Turin. Crosby (as he has in the World Juniors) will try to lead Canada to Olympic glory in 2010 at beautiful Vancouver.

As much as a like Gretzky, he has to step down. He picks 'favorites'--no doubt. For heavens sake he WANTED Yzerman and Lemieux on that team!! (played on a large European ice rink asking two 40's to play for Canada, one of them on one leg (Stevie)??). Truly, unacceptable.

As you stated that was a debacle at Turin.

Our Juniors go for 3-peat in a few weeks at Sweden.....:103631605

I will say that Martin Havlat is the most exciting player on the Blackhawks since Denis Savard. :103631605

The EAST is a BEAST

In what way Fish? I'll take Ana, SJ, and Dal over the Sabres or whoever the East comes up with in June. With these teams playing each other so many times this year there should be some very battle tested teams ready for a big playoff run coming out of the Pacific.

The Pens have just feasted on the Flyers this year, sort of the finally we can beat these guys mentality sets in. Scoring 28 goals and going 5-0 against them probably reflects how badly they would like to beat them when they get the chance.

The WEST may indeed have the TWO best teams overall, but the EAST has more depth from top to bottom.

Currently the EAST 9-13th place teams are.........

WASH
OTTAWA
TORONTO
BOSTON
TAMPA BAY

The WEST on the otherhand has only one team above .500(COLORADO) in their 9-13th spots.......with Columbus and LA not nearly the equal of any of the 5 EAST teams mentioned above.......

COLORADO
VANCOUVER
CHICAGO
LA
COLUMBUS

I watched the Pitt/Philly game last night and Crosby was tearing apart the Flyers. I knew he would get better but the pace he is starting this year is outstanding. NHL is in good hands with some of these young stars and I actually try to find Pittsburgh and Washington games on TV.

I agree about Team Canada making a big mistake at the Torino olympics. How do you leave off Staal and Spezza? I know people wanted Crosby on there but at least these 2 guys deserved it. One thing Canada and the US have problems with is the tendency to stick with veterans over youth and in 2006 Canada paid for it. There were some players not having the best year in 2005/2006 but still earned a spot on the roster like Lecavalier, St. Louis, Bertuzzi, I am tempted to throw in Richards name in there and although he had many points for Canada in Torino most of them were goals that the goalie should have stopped. Now what will happen is Crosby, Spezza, and Staal will make the next olympics but won't have the experience from before.

I like Pat Quinn but even for the Leafs he never liked playing rookies or any young players. The teams that beat Toronto in the playoffs have some youth and you can pull in many examples of the last 10 years of Stanley Cup Champions to prove a point.

World Juniors Hockey Championships are starting soon :hugesmile

You're funny Fish. More depth just means more teams equally mediocre? If I had to make a top 10 list of NHL teams right now, 8 would be from the West, 2 from the East. I could even make an arugment that Colorado is a tad better than Atlanta and therefore its 9 and 1. Just look at the GA/GF and remember these teams mostly play against divisional teams and its quite obvious.

You must really have your Eastern glasses on to belief the East is a beast man.

I recall you stating that TAMPA and CAROLINA couldn't/wouldn't win the CUP three years and one year ago respectively.

Practically every coach in any sport in the world goes with veterans. Its the safe choice and doesn't get you fired if you go with the household name over the emerging youngster. The youngster basically has to be seriously outplaying the veteran to get the spot, often because they just say well the guy will have many chances in the future.
