i just got home and am watching these guys break down the best cfb teams of all time on espn classic...not sure if its old or not..its saying live on the tv though

they just went thru the 95' Huskers...how they averaged 54ppg..and gave up 14....won EVERY game by 2tds+++...SMOKED the Gators WHO WON the NC the following year (thats nuts)...i remember that team and it was SICKKKKKKK!!!!!:realtongu

this is pretty cool watching on TV...they even had the 83 neb team on there...i think (but not sure) they were facing off vs the 95 juggernaut...

I will never forget the look on Spurriers face during that game. He was a little younger and more emotional and was SICK all game. You knew very early that Nebraska could do whatever they wanted on both sides of the ball. It was one of the best nights of my life being a HUGE lifelong Cornhusker fan.

95 Huskers for sure.

I think Frazier may still be scoring TD's in the Fiesta Bowl. That is one of the few games I have ever left early, the only bowl game for sure.

71 Huskers were awesome with great players on both sides of ball before recruiting and winning be the end all things. Greatest game ever was Thanksgiving matchup in Norman with NU winning 35-31 with lead changes and Huskers taking lead on Kinne's 4th Td with a little more than 2 minutes left. Sooners were #2 that year and both teams were WAY ahead of the competition. That game was played fantastically by both teams with one TO and one 5 yd penalty. If the same scenario existed today, the hype machine would breakdown before November 1. Sooners avg 480 yds on the ground with their new wishbone and NU had the immovable D and great balanced O.

That Thanksgiving weekend Auburn and Bama were ranked 3 and 4 at 9-0 each. Bama (Johnny Musso wishbone tailback) beat Auburn(Sullivan Heisman trophy to Beasley for about 80 catches--ton in that era) by DDs. On New year's day in Sugar, Sooners destroyed Auburn by 3+ TDs and game wasn't even that close. That night Huskers crushed Bama 36-6 scoring at will in first half and just wearing out Bama D with inside reverse to wingback. To top it off, Colorado beat a top 7 team (Houston with Bill Yoemans' vaunted veer option) behind Charlie Davis at RB to finish their season with 2 losses. The final poll had NU, OU, Col as 1,2,3

I laugh today when people clamor and cry about Mich being 2nd best team deserving of rematch when their status is questionable. In 71, there was never a doubt that NU and OU were 1 and 1A. To boot, I believe Big 8 had two other teams in top 18--Mizzou coached by Dan Devine and Iowa St. Kansas with David Jaynes as QB was decent as well.

the 95 nebraska team was very good!!!!

however the 94 team was handed the national championship... the 94 psu team would have beating that neb team.....they were the better team...

the 95 neb team though is a different story...they were scary good

That was the pinnacle of the Big 8. I know at one time 6 teams were rated in the top 20. They beat each other up so I don't know if 6 finished that high but it was a great league and Nebraska and Oklahoma were both so good. It's hard to compare eras but from that era they were the most dominant team by far. 1995 Huskers were outstanding too but their league competition week to week was not near as good as in 1971.

72 USC was rated #2 best ever by CBS in a top 10 last year, the things they did were insane too, that team barely got to the top 16 in this countdown!

And 01 Miami may have had NFL guys everywhere, but they also had a noddle arm'd QB, and he cancels them out in my book.

The '95 Husker team faced 5 teams that were rated in the top 20 at some time during that season:

Washington St.
Kansas St.
Colorado
Oklahoma
Florida

The 95 husker team was at least a touchdown better than any assembled ever. Hell the Florida team they woodshedded was viewed in some circles as one of the best of all time, until they ran into the Husker buzzsaw. Ten guys on that Husker starting defense STARTED in the NFL and the only one that didn't was the best player on the defense. Mr. Terrell Farley. Phillips was one of the best backs in college football history as well just on talent alone, not to mention Frazier. The list goes on and on. This team was scary good and we will never seem a team quite like it ever again.
