Dumb Ass Seattle let the best Guard in the league go, and the offensive line play has been horrible. The running game has not been the same this year, and maybe put too much pressure on the offensive side. Hasselback is not the kind of guy to "carry" a team. But on a very good team, he can be very good, as he seems to be very accurate when he has time, and people catch the ball.

you can replace "Matt Hasseleback" in the thread title and replace it with a lot of Seattle players/units. What about their defense. That defense was really good last year...

the defense has been exposed because the offense does not stay on the field as much this year, and don't think the offense has scored a many points this year.

This is the correct answer. Notice Minnesota is a team on the rise thanks to their OL play.

That team is just beat up as a whole.

I'm not trying to defend Matt but he had some nice throws that got dropped.

SB runner ups traditionally do bad anyways. They would be doing even worse if they didnt get to play the weakest schedule in the NFL.

as a very huge seattle fan, zoopra hits it squarely on the head. Most Seattle fans would have told you as soon as it happened that getting rid of Hutch was a horrible move. At least for most of us it would not even have been a question if it was up to us on whether or not to keep Hutch vs Shaun. no question, and I and many fans said this after the season last year..... Anyone could have run behind that line last year. Nothing against Shaun, but Hutch is clearly the better player in the league, and if it really came down to a decision between those two during th offseason, then we made a very bad decision.

Offensive Line is most underrated position in football.

Look at Edgerrn James.

If Emmitt Smith didn't have 4 All-Pro offensive lineman he wouldn't of avg'd more than 3.9 a carry.

Maybe if those offensive lineman didn't have Emmitt they wouldn't have been all-pro's???

I agree about how important the o-lineman are, just taking up for my boy Emmitt.

How is Edgarrin James doing this season with no offensive line? Emmitt Smith is a fraud dude. He had a lot of heart and was likeable but that offensive line opened huge holes for him to run through.. Take that massive O-Line away and he is just an above average RB..

Larry Allen Nate Newton Erik Williams Mark Tuinei.. <-- All BEASTS..

Breaking down game tapes of last nights performance, he is still hurting which is affecting his play in my opinion.

Similarities of Hasslebacks perfomance compared to the performance of Texas QB McCoy vs Texas A&M strongly present. Iffy mechanics, poor arm strength, lack of tight zip on the ball, etc.

Seattle driving at around the SF 20 with Hassleback going for an attempted TD pass that ends up getting picked off. The weather was bad, but that duck floated and if he is 100% healthy, that wobbler is a rope for 6.

Alexander still hurting as well and nevermind a new offensive line with undersized younger guys. Hutchinson loss proving larger than huge.

Look for this team to be a one and done come playoff time.

Hassleback is a good QB, but limited at this time. Can't count on a guy that is fresh off injury and not 100% to carry your team on his shoulders week in and week out, especially with a lacking run game.

DJax being out doesn't help matters in Seattle and receivers aren't looking sharp either with to many droped passes. Amazing Stevens still has a job in the NFL. Worst pair of hands for a TE in the pros in quite some time. Guy getting by on size, speed, athletic ability and signs of potential talent, but comes up small way to much.

Wouldn't say shit QB, but more of an average year, or less than average in terms of expectations. He will be back next year after getting healthy and grinding back confidence in the offseason.

A fraud??? Wow, that is ridiculous, but everyone's entitled to their opinion. Just because Emmitt wasn't flashy doesn't mean he wasn't great, I would compare him to Tim Duncan of the NBA. Bottom line these guys get the job done, great players and great teammates.

The answer is simple... Steve Hutchinson. They lost one of the best run-blocking guards in the league. They are not running nearly as well as last year and opposing defenses know that and don't have to stack the box to stop the ground game. Adds up to more attention to Hasselback and company.

Doesn't hurt that Walter Jones has is playing with pain either.

I agree with Gyno to a certain extent. Not a knock on Emmitt it's more a knock on any RB. They can only put up stats with a nice offensive line. Average offensive line = average RB. Poor offensive line = poor RB. Great offensive line = great RB. Emmitt had a great offensive line and put up great stats until he went to Zona with no line and everyone just chalked it up to Emmitt getting old. Offenses are only as good as the hogs up front. I could go back decades and that is one constant in the NFL.

Edge didn't just become a poor RB all of a sudden in the offseason. Denver doesn't just always draft stud RBs and then trade them away. Shanahan knows it starts with the line and that is why the Broncos almost always have a winning record. Chester Taylor couldn't cut it behind an overweight ex-con in Baltimore and all of a sudden he's a stud RB? That wouldn't have anything to do with Minnesota signing Steve Hutchinson and beefing up their offensive line a ton, would it?

So in conclusion, I don't think Emmitt was a fraud really but I do think him and all other RBs are only as good as their offensive lines allow them to be.
