Guys my friend Mika is delving into the seedy world of sports gambling. She is honing her skills for her inaugural appearance at the "Hottest Handicappers in Vegas" Super Bowl Handicapping seminar in Las Vegas the week before the Super Bowl.
This is a serious request to form a thread to give some helpful advice to a neophtye handicapper.

I will get her to check in and use some of this advice so that she can become a "rock solid" handicapper. So come on guys, throw her a bone.
(Damn, I was doing so good on the serious note without the double-entendres until then).

And to offer a little incentive, those who can offer the best advice to help out, I will make sure the Doberman and Mika can come up with some kind of prize or reward.

Run away as fast as you can Mika. This business is not for the feint-hearted. It will suck you in and you will never find your way out.

Wait a minute, I guess you're not the feint-hearted type are you? I guess you've been around the block a few times so you seem like you can handle yourself.

Good luck!

Hard to believe with all the so called "experts" on here, no one is willing to share some basic tips to help out a new handicapper.

I'm confident with Mika's intellect and scientific background, she will pick up on the handicapping pretty quick.

And for those coming in with horny teenage thoughts, how come you didn't step up to the plate when Mika was at the Bash? Were you too busy picking your jaws up off the floor?

I gave her some helpful hints in her post where she picked Cincinnati to win last night.

Wow you mean to tell me no one has stepped up to the plate yet?

Ok one simple tip for NCAA: Pick against a team that has underrachieved the end of the year (i.e. losing streaks or conference championship) as well as going to a bowl lower than expected (i.e Clemson, U of Miami, Georgia Tech)

Look for teams/coaches that notoriously play good OR bad in bowl games (in otherwords look for trends)

Good stuff Ironman.
I think this thread could help other new handicappers as well, if we could get some valuable input from those sharp bettors.

My piece of advice:
"If it looks to good to be true, it probably is".

This applies to betting as well as life.
If a worse team is favored over a better team, perceived that is, the worse team is the correct bet.

Underdogs of 7+ points have done well in the last seven years in the bowl games

Flip a coin. She'll match or beat many touts and beat most of the public. Sort of like investing in index funds. Have her come up with a few selections and then she can ask you or this crowd for some reasoning to back the picks she is going with so it sounds like she knows what she is doing.

MJ,
You will miss us by a week. All the girls will be here the week before for the handicapping seminar and the poker tournament.
I, of course, will be around for the Super Bowl, but then I don't expect I'm the one you would want to meet.:103631605

Mika'S Tue Bowl Pick
<HR style="COLOR: #fdde82" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->Hey Boys, and girls.

Ok, I took some advice and did a little homework. Paul is showing me how to look up stuff also.
Wolfe looks like he can run. But if that is all they got TCU will stop it.
So I think TCU wins this by a lot.
Plus they will want to impress LT in San Diego.

I pick TCU-12:thumbsup2: :thumbsup2:

MIKA

P.S. Sorry about last night....
