Currently serving a suspension for racing a horse on clenbuterol in Delaware, trainer Scott Lake will be suspended an additional 30 days after the same drug was found in a horse saddled by Lake during an April race at Aqueduct.
The New York State Racing and Wagering Board said Lake, who leads North America in victories this season, has withdrawn an appeal of its initial decision and will serve the one-month suspension from December 24 through January 22.
Clenbuterol was found in Zeal Power, who finished third in the second race at Aqueduct on April 12.
With the suspension, Luke's Flash was declared the third place finisher of the six-furlong starter handicap.
Lake has piled up victories and drug positives in 2006.
His horses have won 528 races from 2,158 starts, well ahead of North America's second-place trainer by wins Todd Pletcher, who has notched 294 victories and currently is serving a suspension for a 2004 drug positive.
Lakes's stable ranks third in earnings this year with $9,565,656.
In November, a Delaware court denied Lake's appeal of a ruling by that state's racing commission that banned Lake after Secret Run tested positive for clenbuterol following a June 7 victory there. That marked the second positive for Lake at the meeting, and he began a 30-day suspension on November 16.
Last year's top trainer by wins, Steve Asmussen, ranks third in wins this year and has not challenged Lake since beginning a six-month suspension of his own in July sfter one of his horses tested positive for mepivacaine in March in Louisians-----Frank Angst
