If he ever decides to play defense or involve teammates in the game he might get consideration. Otherwise few will vote for a guy who redefines one-on-one play. If the Suns had a SG or SF who could drive to the basket with any regularity he would be getting cooked as usual on the other end of the court.

Caron Butler for Kwame Brown was a steal....of course in LA he became expendable but it seemed too many teams gave up on Butler too quickly.

Too funny the guy has a commercial saying it takes 5 to win yet he rarely passes and tells everyone to get out of the way.

Being a big Spurs fan I can unequivocally say that Yao Ming in the MVP - I am not talking about these one on one bullshit artists - this guy is awesome in all facets - and he shoots 86% from the line.

What did GD just say, 13th in the league in assists, he passes more than you people must realize.

Yao has been off the charts this year...I would have to agree Yao is leading right now...Nash still right in the hunt as well.

Lebron is the one player who has slipped a notch.

The guy is the point guard for the 4th highest scoring team in the league. Being 13th isn't exactly something to be proud of. Besides check out how he is 18th in shooting percentages for PGs in the NBA. He scores a bunch because he shoots a bunch, 3rd in the league in attempts. Bottom line is he is fun to watch when he is on, but he is not exactly an efficient player for the position and that precisely is why he won't be an MVP any time soon.

He won't win MVP anytime soon because the team isn't at the top of the league....he has all the tools...you know as well as I do he's not a point guard... When Michael Jordan was bringing the ball up the court for Chicago he was also a shoot first pass maybe later kind of guard they didn't have a PG either.

What do you expect him to do pass first? The Wizards have heated up as Gilbert has heated up.. the Wizards don't have 4-5 options like Nash and Phoenix spotting up all over the arc and slashing to the lane...TOTALLY different kind of 'point guard'.

Nash makes his team better AND shoots over 50%. That is the difference. Nash knows how to run the offense and helps the team operate efficiently. Some nights he senses the boys aren't up to speed and takes on a bigger offensive role like he did tonight. Most nights though he is just looking for the best option and usually finds it. Arenas doesn't have to play defense to win MVP, but he needs to make his team better in other ways to get votes. The team isn't as good as it can be with him playing the way he does.

If you are not looking at the efficiency of teams, you probably aren't doing so well in your betting on the NBA. Efficiency is everything when you have as many scores as you get in basketball. Arenas' stats and his team's just aren't very good in this regard. Scoring a lot doesn't make you good, scoring on a high percentage of possessions and doing it at a higher rate than your opponent is what usually wins games no matter if you have a game with teams scoring in the 80s or the 110s.

I can't debate this...I love Nash...this is like going to battel with a water pistol...Arenas is a helluva lot better than you're giving him credit for though Bill.

I am officially off the hot seat lol....I can't argue Nash/Arenas :scared1:

Haha, ok Journey understood. I don't hate Arenas and admit he is fun to watch, but it is an important point to remember. There are many players in this league who score a bunch of points but don't really add much to the team in doing it. Separating the effective players and effective teams from those who just put up numbers is important. Gilbert if he wants to improve is going to have to learn this. Shooting those shots from nearly 30 feet out just because he is "feeling" it aren't wise, even if they go in sometimes. I give him credit for realizing how important it is to get to the line as he has developed that skill, but using his teammates and helping create the best shot on a team with plenty of offensive talent is how he takes the Wiz to the next level.

As an example of an effective player, look at Dwayne Wade. He isn't a PG, but still knows he has to involve his teammates so he has 8 assists a game. He knows he has to get to the line and as a result has earned 11 shots from the line a game. He takes circus shots every now and then, but is shooting 48%, excellent for a guard. Best of all he knows he really doesn't have 3 point range so he only takes 2 shots a game from beyond the arc, preferring to go to the basket and earn those free throws.

That is an effective player, something he obviously had to be to get his team a title.
