The new owner decided to spend some dollars for a known winner. Suppan to the Brew Crew for 42 mil for 4 years. I have been a fan in this small market team for 35 years and this signing is like the Reggie White to the Packers. Its about time we have an owner that spends a little cash.

OH BABY! Merry Christmas Sheets and Suppan.:103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605 :103631605

What a market this is. Hate to rain on your parade but hardly proven. Saved his season with a ridiculous stretch after the All-Star break including the postseason - in a FA year. Yes he had a couple decent seasons with the large market contending Cards but;

Wouldn't be surprised if he sat back in his recliner with a best in his hand and a fat wallet putting something up like a 10-10 4.85.

I think your team is the only team my PIRATES do well against!

We will probaly sign some washed up vets as always. If they do good just trade them away!

Suppan is average at best. Consider nine wins a gift, if he gets it. More likely he'll be 7-10 or something like that.

Money is being thrown around this year like never before.

Frank Thomas for 2 years for 18 MIL....Ridiculous
Jason Marquis 3 years, $21 million...ludicrous
Danys Baez 3 years, $19 million....u kidding me?

Miguel Batista 3 years, $24 million....WHAT??? I'll be a miracle if he gets 24 wins in those three years.

Alfonso Soriano 8 years, $136 million. The guy is good, yeah, but c'mon.

Gil Meche 5 years, $55 million...that is unbelievable
Gary Matthews, Jr 5 years, $50 million. Not bad for a guy who's had one good year in his life. This year he'll probably hit .238 likie we're used to.

I could go on and on.......

Suppan, like most pitchers in this year's market, is getting overpaid...

I agree with all the posts. You just do not understand that we have not spent any money in a long time. When we did it failed other than Carlos Lee. Frankilin Stubbs, Jeffry Leonard and the like. I am just excited to have a decent pitcher with a young ball club who can give them a chance every time he starts.

Suppan was overpaid but everyone is. He's a solid clubhouse guy and inning eater. Not a 20 game winner but a guy you can count on to chew innings and he pitches well under pressure.

I think the preseason prognosticators were one year off on the Brewers...

They were the popular surprise choice last year...

I believe this is the year they make a move...and have their first winning season in the NL.

Sheets is the key however...is he stays healthy, their rotation looks solid. Add Suppan to that mix behind Capuano...:103631605

I like Cordero as their closer...

Two solid catchers in Miller and Estrada...

Their young infielders are solid too...Fielder and Weeks. Like the addition of Counsell to provide depth across the IF in case Hardy goes down again, or if Koskie cannot return.

All good points made in this thread. Been betting *under season wins* on the Brewers for 12 years..... to huge success. I know the gravy train has to stop sooner or later.

Manchild... the Pirates *under season wins* has been an annual bet for the last 4 years. They have it currently at 72. Is there any reason not to go under here?.............This team has been bad.
