Wow, how one bad season can sway the fans.

If this isn't one of the more ultimate statements of today's sports landscape of "What have you done for me lately?" then I don't know what is. Either that or fans realized that Cowher was unbelievably lucky in winning that one Super Bowl and was a fraud to begin with. I'd say it's a combination of both.

The zebras gift wrapped that ring for Bill.
Never was much of Cower fan, (I don't have anything against the Steeler) I just thought he was/is overrated as a head coach.

I vote yes, time for a change in Steel City.

Maybe he should of rode off into the sunset with Bettis after capturing a ring. Thhat way e could have relaxed some with his family or hooked up with a TV gig for a year or two. Seems like he is a tad bit burned out and needs some time off. Long tenure with the same team for 10+years. Besides, he could always sit out a year or two and then decide to come back for more money. He would get at least a couple more mil per year on the open market after a rest. I think he announces his retirement soon.

I think Cowher should coach at Pittsburgh as long as he wants to. Although he had a bad season but they lost a few big time players from their offense, randel el and bettis. And it's hard for big Ben to stay focused after winning the super bowl at such a young age. I say with this losing season Cowher and the Steelers will get their hunger back next season.

He should explore commodities trading, or perhaps even the WORLD POKER TOUR.

I hope he leaves Pitt and comes here to Indy.... Just what a punchless (quiet) Colts team needs... You can have Dungy and win some more regular season games

I think Cowher should coach at Pittsburgh as long as he wants to....100% CORRECT

THERE IS NOT A TEAM, EXCEPT FOR EAGLES, THAT WOULDN'T WANT HIM AS THERE COACH.

I think the Bears are happy with Lovie. Now they have to sign him.

no way...if he wants to return he should be welcomed with open arms...the entire Steelers team wasn't as focused and you could see that as far back as August..they lost Ben earlt, never recovered and didn't have a RB to pound away at teams , which in turn exposed the defense as just average.

They got hot late last year and won it all, the 2004 team was a better team though .

The Refs, Too, Were Stealers

A memorable Seahawks season ends with a forgettable game as the Pittsburgh Zebras win Super Bowl XL.

I say he is going to retire. He has already moved his family to North Carolina and he will take a break for a year. Then, there will be about 30 teams that will make him an offer he cant refuse. He will never have a problem getting a coaching job in the NFL. But, it's time for him to move on.

He should have won a Super Bowl long before he did. As a Steelers fan, I'd like to see him come back, but won't be terribly disappointed to see him go

He won the big one last year, had his QB slam his melon through a car windshield in the offseason, and hit a couple other bumps during the season.

Don't underestimate the target that is on your team's head being the defending champ. Beating you could make a teams season.

He is clearly one of the great coaches in that league. He has won big with garbage QB's and heavy turnover losing many stars thru the years. He is a GREAt coach, has won it all and should do whatever he wants. But anyone would love to have him.

The Steelers with two head coaches in the last 37 years (Noll 209 wins, 4 SB's,4-0) and Cowher (148 wins, 2 SB's,1-1)

He has gotten outcoached in MANY a big game. He is great for whipping his team into a lather for an October game as an underdog against the juggernaut but his butthole puckers severely as soon as he is supposed to win and his team falls behind - he specializes in getting his team more fired up emotionally but in terms of X's and O's and gameplanning, he is nothing close to special. No doubt he is an above average coach but there is no denying that his teams have fell short in the big games through the years. Thanks Bill for finally winning us one for the the thumb - it has been a 14 good years.

He will be announcing his "retirement" next week
