Which was about five years ago. The big hotels don't throw you anything for playing at their hotels anymore. I guess the corporations have changed things around. I received a whopping $120 comp back from the Rio after playing there for 5 days! I do have to thank them for the food poisoning I got at their upscale seafood restaurant. Never eat fish on a Monday is the rule I forgot.

I originally checked in to the Palms and hated it so much there, that after 5 hours I paid the room for the night and went to the Rio. What a ripoff.

how was your overall stay there? I'm making my 1st ever trip to Vegas in February and I'm staying at the Rio. If their comps really suck maybe I'll do most of my gambling at another joint. did you hit up any of the clubs in the Rio?

Ya Vegas don't give a rat ass unless you are playing 1k and up a hand at the casino. Last time I was there, stayed at the MGM, went to the host both and they told me my average betsize was around 140$ on the tables, mainly BJ and Craps and was playing a few hours a day, I ate well, but got no room discount or show tickets and I was there for 7 days. They're so tight with comps its insane.

Go to Tunica, playing 100$ hands of BJ will get you great comps and way better BJ games where you can count cards and potentially even turn a profit.

You cant beat LV for the booze, clubs and overall scene but in the words of Rodney, "you don't get no respect" unless your a super high roller.

Cheers

$140 for 4+hrs/day at MGM should have gotten your room comped.

I swear to you it didn't, and trust me I asked, I was averaging 3 hours a day though, not that its a big diff, but after that I would not go back there. I love the hotel itself, but the comps were brutal. Thats my experience anyways.

i go to vegas to get away from the gambling...how ironic is that? ill play the ncaa games for small money but for the most part its a break away from the computer...im not much a table guy either...little blackjack here and there but for the most part im there for the entertainment and nightlife...rather blow it buying the girl $13 martini's and myself $7 heinekens and have a good time then lose it to them playing their games...

The comps are non-existent! I use to have a casino host and they did away with it. The rooms are big there, but don't expect anything in return for gambling there.

I was in Voodoo lounge Thursday night (which I was never really crazy about.) and they even hit me up for the $20 cover even though I was staying at the hotel. Said it was a new rule. Supposedly Prince's new club in the hotel is hopping.

By the way, played black jack with USC coach Tim Floyd Thursday and Friday. Super nice guy. He was there for the Vegas tourney and so was half of Wichita. Great people. They all kept asking me about the Sopranos being I'm from NJ. :lolBIG:

thanks for the reply, I heard that about Prince's club too. It'll be NBA All Star weekend when I'm in town so nightlife should be insane everywhere.

Couisnard out with food poisoning did them in. One of the fans said he had eaten somewhere else (rather then with the team) in Vegas before the game with his family.

Here is a hint, stay out of Harrahs owned hotels and play/stay at the local places just off the strip. The Tuscany is pretty sweet and a room is a room.

The repeated mantra of corporate Vegas being unlike old Vegas has been repeated ad nauseum on here. The simple fact is the public keeps coming in record numbers and doesn't do their homework on value and odds.
It's almost sadly akin to a Ponzi scheme.

I can't believe what I'm reading. I'd call BS on all of your bet amount claims, but don't want to come off as an ass. My wife and I just came back from 6 days at the Luxor. We upgraded to the low-end suite, played some daily poker tournaments, plus about 2-5 hours each at 2/4 Hold Em tables. She also played video poker (25 cents) and I bet sports. We also ate at their restaurants a couple times, she went to the spa, and whenever possible we charged things to the room.

The day before we left, I wanted to make sure my One Club points converted to the new membership club. The lady at the membership desk asked who was "helping" us. We said no one was, so the lady called VIP and a host came down to talk with us. About 15 minutes later, our total bill was just $300. I think they probably knocked about $700 off our bill.

So I'm not sure what you guys ae doing, but the comps are alive and well at the Luxor, even for low-level players.

You're full of it if you want us to believe you got $700 taken off your bill for the action you gave. How would the hotel make that back on someone like you? Don't even bother factoring in the sports betting action. It's not even a glitch on their screen when it comes to figuring comps.

I couldn't believe it either. But for some reason, that's what the host did. The only thing left on our tab was half the price of the spa, half the price of two dinners, incedentals and taxes. She was new...maybe that accounted for it. But I know I walked out of the Luxor after staying six nights in a suite (including Friday and Saturday nights) and the bill was only $309.

My first trip to Vegas was about 5 years ago, and it has changed a bunch since then. I have made many trips the last 5 years, but after the bash in August, Vegas does not hold any value to me. I don't plan on going back, but might if the stars align.

The strip is a tourist trap/nightmare. It's way crowded, the traffic is the worst I have ever experienced, the gambling blows, and the food is good but overpriced.

A trip now to Vegas costs me more than twice what it did a few years ago. Vegas can kiss my arse.

I agree to stay away from any Harrahs owned property...they have monopolized Las Vegeas...they own way too many props and have ruined competition. They own Harrahs, Rio, Caesars, Paris, Ballys, Flamingo and others I cant remember. They treat their employees like crap and their guests receive very little in comps. Corporate bullsh** to the max. I wont stay at a Harrahs property anymore.

Exactly!! I use to rather fly out there on a 5 hour flight then go to Atlantic City on a two hour drive. If they're going to bang you out, I'm better off going to the Bahamas and at least getting a tan. 2 people having breakfast cost $53. Did they use dinosaur eggs for my omelette?

I think next time, I'm just going to do what Sugarbear suggested and find a nice local place next time. Gamble there and go to the clubs and restaurants at other places.
