Hard to compare when we are here cause of sports. But IF--Please note the IF--Vegas did not have any sports wagering (like AC has none); would it still be THE entertainment capital of the world?

Kinda like when sports players announce their position and college played for.

Some say "THE" Ohio State University or "THE" Michigan State, etc....

sure, sports is a drop in the bucket, most go for slots and table games, shows, eat lobster in the desert, etc. It wouldn't have slowed Vegas much because sports betting was really nothing a few decades ago. It still is minor in Vegas.

Agreed. When I travel to Vegas, I don't waste my time worrying about sports. There are so many other things to do. Shows, sight-seeing, table games, slots for the wife, and shopping not to mention just a few.

I might place 1 or 2 plays, total, when I'm out there.

AC is a shit hole. It's very dirty and it not close to Vegas. The only nice place up there is Borgata.

Las Vegas will always be the entertainment capitol, but during the summer months Atlantic City has the boardwalk and the ocean...A.C. does have its share of star power but nothing can compare to Las Vegas and its shows...down the road I really believe that A.C. will get sports betting, but I imagine maybe 10 years from now...Too much opposition now....by the way, I grew up outside of Atlantic City...

Even if AC does get sports betting, will it make a difference? Who travels to Vegas, BECAUSE of sports betting? Until the Feds find a way to consistantly monitor online gambling, it'll always be much more appealing to me to bet from the comfort of my own home, vs traveling across the country to place a bet.

Do you think AC is nice? <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I go up there around 10 times a year and stay at the Borgata. I refuse to leave the hotel b/c I hate the city. I just got back from AC last night and was thinking to myself as I drove through the city how run down it was getting...

I believe the only times sports bettors travel to Las Vegas is during March Madness and Superbowl....too many other things to do in Las Vegas....

Olddirtyku...you are right, A.C. is run down but they are trying to make improvements...Sadly the casinos don't care about the city, they try to do everything in their power to keep you INSIDE their hotels...but as I said before, the beaches during the summer are terrific....

Viejo…

AC has potential to be a great vacation they just need to clean and build it up… I would love to see some hotels give Borgata competition.

I wonder why no other casinos are being built down there? The Borgata is packed and sold out every weekend…

I agree with you for the most part. Just maybe think you're a bit too vocal about it. Had this argument with a friend recently. It's way too long and complicated to write here. I guess, when you really look at the BIG PICTURE that would be the State of Nevada vs tiny AC (in a sort of vacumm), it's not a fair shuffle. But I understand your position and agree with it.

Sports betting means zippo around here. I would say 90% of the money going across the counters during non big event weekends is from locals. You would be amazed how many people come here still and are surprised, or even shocked, to learn they can legally bet on sports. I would venture a guess more people in this country, and certainly in the world, know more about the legal hookers being almost 100 miles from Vegas than they know about sports books.

You are asking an extremely narrow group here your question.

The Casino's attitude toward the city really sucks, sure they will clean up outside their properties, but could care less about the city itself...there are no movie theaters in the city, no big malls, or no big nite clubs in A.C. The casinos want their customers INSIDE their properties, not strolling down the boardwalk....

Wouldn't walk the streets at nite, stick to the boardwalk...The Borgata is on the other side of the city so you would have to take a cab, worth the trip...

And I would guess the same is true (maybe to a lesser extent) in Nevada. But again, it's hard to compare. That's why I asked. I respect Wild Bill's opinion highly--make no mistake of that. And I think he is right about foreigners knowing more about legal hookers nearby than sportsbooks..

BUT, I have to disagree somewhat. What's a hooker cost? Varies--I know. How much $$$$ can you bet at ALL the Vegas books on a game?
Again--it's apples vs oranges.
It doesn't take a rocket scientiest to say American Love to bet sports--All we read about is this or that or whatver being busted for taking bets!
