Blue,

If you have Directv and have your phone line hooked up to the Directv receiver, Vonage won't work. Also, if you have a home security system hooked up through your phone line, you should make sure Vonage is compatible. If you are going to keep your local phone company and ADD Vonage, then the above concerns are not a problem.

Also, 911 is different with Vonage.

Good luck,
Charlie

i had packet 8

vonage

and skype in and out service.

packet8 i got rid of because the service quality is no where close to vonage-- not sure what the reason

i have the business plan with free fax line.

skypein/out is equivalent to packet8 and depends where you are calling as to quality.

www.futurephone.com gives you free overseas calls to most places and quality using it is very good

You can pay by the year. My one time once a year payment for phone service is only $160.00 for the whole year with all the add ons.

Plus it has the 911 which vonage does not have.

They absolutely have 911...and advanced 911

http://vonage.com/features.php?feature=911&lid=footer_911

Most of our customers (other than WiFi and Softphone customers) have access to either basic 911 or Enhanced 911 (E911) service. With E911 service, when you dial 911, your telephone number and registered address is simultaneously sent to the local emergency center assigned to your location, and emergency operators have access to the information they need to send help and call you back if necessary.

If you live in the FUCKING STIXXXXXXXXXXXX then you may be SOL...but if you live out there...it would be better to move near civilization rather than worry about Vonage

Certain customers do not have access to either basic 911 or E911. If you don't have access to basic 911 or E911 your 911 call will be sent to the Vonage national emergency call center.

I think the point about 911 service is that it still works with the standard landline telco even when the electric power to your home is disrupted.

Service that depends upon the internet or cable does not have this feature, when you are unable to connect to your service provider.

Of course if you have a cell phone with a live battery this is not a concern.

This is obvious

but I'm confident Chop meant 911 in a normal capacity. If you read his reply this is the only way to take it.

Vonage has Enhanced 911, and if you're just out of reach, Basic 911...if you're really out of it. perhaps no 911 . but you have to be in a hut somewhere to not have 911

With Vonage you can take your Vonage Phone Adaptar Box anywhere that has a high speed internet connection. And the number that you have is the same area code, no matter if your in the states or anywhere.

The thing with 911 is that if you dial 911 from your Vonage phone they will be sent to the address on the account no matter if your dialing from abroad or at the actual address.

Had Vonage for 3 years now and never had a problem.
