Just got back from the ALAMO BOWL in San Antonio.

Although the result wasn't what I was wishing for with the Hawkeyes losing, this just may have been my best overall Hawkeye bowl experience.

The San Antonio riverwalk area is as good as advertised and marketed(number one tourist attraction in Texas).

The food and drink were excellent and the TEXAS hospitality was outstanding.

As stated, do not pass up this bowl game if your team is fortunate to be invited.

The ALMMODOME is an outstanding venue for a football game also!

Not usually a big fan of domes, but this relatively small dome(65,000), made for outstanding excitement in terms of crowd acoustics and really not a bad seat in the joint.

The hotel, riverwalk, mall, Alamo, and the Alamodome are all in a short walking distance of one another.

San Antonio is a very under rated sports town. Been to a Final 4 down there and the river walk really makes the experience, convenient to every thing including lodging.

Two great football team fans in Iowa and Texas had to make it an electric atmosphere.

It sure was, as the stadium was packed and everyone in the dome was a TEXAS or IOWA fan.........very few seats taken up by "corporate fans".

Fishhead, I don't know how old you are, but do you remember a guy from Mississippi named Chandler Klotz who was in management there?

What was Sonny Reizner like? I hear he was a super guy.

Just wondering.

i actually commented to a friend during that game about how loud and 'into it' the crowd seemed to be. it was impressive for a pre- new years bowl.

Don't recall Chandler Klotz.......sorry.

As far as Mr. Reizner, he was all class and I learned more about sportsbetting from him than anybody in my life to this point.

Sonny and I hit it off right away, as I was a RED SOX fan and he was too. I can't begin to tell you and others the respect I had for Mr. Reizner.
