Hey all,

I have been betting for quite sometime now and have often wondered if there truely was anyone out there that just bets middles. How often do they happen? Where do they happen? Does anyone just bet middles?

I ask the question now this year because i have noticed more then normal middles on the HCPs in the NBA. One team im watching has done it alot. I am sure its mainly because their line moves more then enough for the middle to happen but then i have actually seen other things that make me think its alittle more then that. I know the middles tend to happen a great deal on totals in the NBA, NFL and College football and thats where professional middlers are operating. Should i be doing the same? I bet mostly moneylines in the NBA and i do quite well. Im thinking that maybe im missing out on free money on not middling though.

Just as an example. Say your team is fairly good. Good enough to win 70% of games. Spreads move alot no matter who you play. Motivation from one game to the next changes alot but you still know you can win the game and your that good you can even land the number exactly where you want it to. A missed basket here and there, turnovers and fouls late in the game can make this happen very easily.

Go to NBA.com november 22nd NO@ Phoenix. Go to the 4th qtr play by plays and look at the last 8 mins or so (look closely at the last 2mins). Once you have done all that go and look at the betting for the game and you will see what im saying. I can't actually recall the lines(i dont have them in front of me at the moment, but off the top of my head it opened PHO -7.5/-8 and went to -9.5/-10 something like that). Thats just one of many games they have hit the middle.

Is it just luck or something more? I will let you decide. To the casual observer it looks like nothing happened. Many teams middle games during the season. Im in a position at work where i see more then the casual observer and i can tell you there was very strange transactions on that game late on NO +9.5.

Anyways I would like to hear from anyone with stories on middling, how to bet middles, where people bet middles. How to identify an oppotunity to bet a middle. When a line moves enough one way and then buy back and bet the other way. Its an art. We all try to do the best with what we have and we all work hard to be where we are today but maybe just maybe we could all be doing that much better by middling.

The following is roughly what my personal sportsbetting weaponery is broken down to terms of percentages.....

Scalps/Middles---30%
Bonuses/contests---13%
Straight bets----15%
Parlays/teasers---42%

If your going to attempt to profit from middling, you will need to have a minimum of four books to make it worthwhile and more depending on your investment goals and risk.

One of those shops would in all probability have to involve an EXCHANGE(eg-Matchbook).

Obviously the larger your bankroll is and your risk tolerance, the greater your rewards...........all this, and you will still need to gain hands on experience of how to correctly do it............which cannot be learned overnight.

42 percent parlays and teasers? That is shocking to me.

I thought the same thing. I'm curious how Fishhead is coming up with these %. Maybe parlays and teasers have represented 42% of his winnings and not necessarily 42% of his plays or handle. Still higher than I would've guessed.

Some numbers middle more than others obviously, but on average a middle will occur 4% of the time, meaning that 96% of the time you pay juice. Sure you can create your own middle by buying points but the cost is prohibative and a loser in the long run. Here are results of all the bowl games so far

No middles.

Just my opinion.., that 4% figure I got out of a Wong gambling book. Seen it around other places also

keep track yourself... for every 25 bets you should hit at least 1 middle.

Not even worth it to get into the middling scene these days unless you have a local who doesn't move line or if he deals you the lines from the local newspaper. I use to have two of these guys and they kicked me out after they got their asses handed to them and finally caught on to what i was doing. The middle hey day for the most part is over online. Sure every know and than you can find a good side, say a +8 at SIA and a -7 +101 at match, but unless you can devote many hours a day to this practice put your time in elsewhere. Many of you probably missed out on the ingame running middles that could have been had before BOS closed. There were great middles than in basketball and football. I know a lot of the sharp guys on here had to be playing those middles and that brought me back to the good times of a few years ago even when SIA had those crazy dog lines. It use to be great but times have changed and books do not want to deal anything but clone lines.

4%? Phoenix middled 3 games i know of inside a month. I know what your saying though 4% over a year. But if it is 4% then how do you explain one team doing this 3 times in a short space of time? Wouldn't people in vegas be monitoring such things. And if so and theres a stink how come no one says anything about it. Maybe its because they are in on it as well.

Playboy.com basehead.

Yeah i figured its the impossible dream and vigs would eat into your eventual middles. I have not really tracked them and how often they happen. I just noticed the Suns have been doing it alot. It would be time consuming and yeah you would have to have alot of outs(dumb locals ect) but if what i believe is happening then maybe i should be looking into this.

LAC line opened -2.5 out to -5 now (no Wade) almost everyday nda totals tend to move 2.5 to 5 points sometimes more. I have seen alot of nfl totals middle. Alot of people took MIL +5 hoping that Gilb sits and they can buy back on the Wiz at a low price if he does.

middling NFL sides off of taking leads is an absolute goldmine. You have to be on the right side of key numbers, hit openers, have a feel for who the public likes, have dozens of outs, put in hours a week waiting for line moves, etc...

It's just math, but if you know it you will eventually win. Not for the bettor with few outs, little money, not alot of time or unconfident in the math behind it but believe me it can be done SUCCESSFULLY!!!!

taking leads and middling are two completely different things though Ice. They take completely different skills. Verry difficult to find middles these days without a local, you know that as well as anyone. And trust me your time spent handicapping line movements could be much better spent handicapping items that are much less focused on. This is where I excel and I think you should devote your time as well. Much easier to handicap a gameplan than a result.

Does anyone ever try to middle with a side (line) with a ML on the opponet? I know there is the chance of losing both, so it's not technically middling, but when the value is off, mathematically there is value.

Antonioli,

3%? Just working on numbers of games and breaking it down into averages per team each team should hit a middle 2.46 times over the course of season if its 3% (thats totals, hcp) The Suns middled 3 times in a month with more then 5 months still pending for them. That 3 times is games i know of only. It could be more then that. Its highly unusual. I wouldn't have even brought this up or started thinking about it alot if i had not seen those strange transactions coming in from overseas. Wasn't so much the size of transactions but where they came from was interesting.

Sure i knew about middling before but i thought it was for pipedreamers. But now just lately im seeing all these pockets of [SIZE=-1]opportunities.

They have to be looked at seriously by anyone in this forum. Huge public teams like the Lakers, Phoenix, Dallas and Miami middles would be working well in im sure. Im going to start tracking it anyways. Thanks to all who have posted.
