no way...he has no running ability , I just can't see this guy anywhere near ready as a passer and he doesn't appear to be a runner at all, even in college.
Theres one thing everyone is forgetting about Russell vs. Quinn.
#1 - Charlie Weis is very well respected in the NFL and he LOVES Brady Quinn. These NFL coaches and GMs always speak to college coaches about the player. Les Miles is NOT respected yet, I can promise you that.
#2 - They will look at career's. Not one game. Quinn is playing with less offensive talent around him vs. a better defense. Russell is shredding up a white boy defense that has been lit up by everyone.
I'm not saying Russell wont be a first round pick or that hes not talented.
put me in the category of those who think that Quinn will be underwhleming in the NFL. Will never be as good as Vince Young, Matt Leinart, or Jay Cutler
he should stay at lsu for one more year, have a kick ass season and maybe heisman hopes, then come out and he should be a top 3 pick, but guy still could use another year of work at the college level to develop more imo.
1 thing to remember AL Davis is the shot caller in Oakland, and he seems to ear on the side of retardation sometimes when it comes to picks. He will watch this game if he isnt passed out already, and hear about this guys potential and blah blah blah, and his viagra will give him a hard on for JaMarcus.
p.s. i think Quinn is the most NFL ready QB, but Russel will be the best. I only wish he would drop to #9 for my dolphins to draft
Journeyman, Russell can definitely run. He's a bigger, stronger version of Dante Culpepper. He needs to polish his passing, but he has all the tools and more.
"Buckethead" Bradshaw said he can throw it 60 yards from his knee. If thats True it is amazing. Most people cant throw a baseball 60 yards from a knee let alone a football.
his arm is incredible, there is no doubt about that
so was kyle boller's
the final thing is marketing and selling tickets
and teams would much rather have Brady Quinn as the face of their franchise, a young Tomy Brady-like Golden Boy from Notre Dame, instead of some Daunte Culpepper/Byron Leftwich type
dont forget this whole thing is about money
i think russell would be a great fit in oakland though, especially with randy moss
