My brother is addictive in internet poker and listen to nobody. He is losing everything and trying to refinace the house with a high interest rate to continue gambling. I try to stop him but has no result. The only way i think now is telling the police and he/she will give him a warning or so. Do you think it is a right way to do it or do you have any suggestion? I really don't want my own brother going down the hill and became a homeles. thanks

Just thinking outloud, maybe it was a site that would voluntarily close his account if you explained what was going on. Of course he could always find another site to log on to so that probably wouldn't work.

I would hate to call the police on him, even though I doubt they could do anything that just seems ugly to me. If there was a cop you knew or someone that would do you a favor and warn him off the record that might work. Even if he was bluffing, tell him the DA's office got a complaint and knew what was going on, they were investigating him so he needed to cut that shit out immediately?

These situations are ugly, it's sort of like having someone you love with a drug problem, it's tough to do much until that person decides they need help. Unfortunately that won't happen often until they hit rock bottom. Wish I had a good suggestion for you sir, good luck.

Patrick, If i could not find a better solution, i have no choice to tell the police before thing getting worse. The question is i am not sure how hard will be the police on him. I really don't want anything bad happen to him.

don't alert any authorities, think they'll just give him a "warning"? I doubt it but who knows...

Let him hit bottom, that is the only way. You trying to be the saviour will do nothing, unless he wants the change.

Again, sounds harsh, but most have to hit bottom before seeking help. And even that doesn't do it for most.

I think the authorities angle isnt going to work here because actually there arent any laws that are being broken here.

If you want to contact anyone, you maybe want to contact someone in the banking industry that will tell him what happens if he forecloses on the house he is refinancing. Yeecchhhh!

What site does he play on?
I'm not even that much of an ass to say that. Btw, make sure to tell us his screen name so i can make sure to avoid him.

does he have a spouse? children? If not, IMO your best bet is to tell him, that when he hits bottom, to give you a call and you will help him find some help.

NOW if he has a wife and children, then IMO touching base with G.A. is a great idea.

Good luck......

I'm going to take a different approach.

Buy him some poker strategy books and make him read them. That should at least slow down his losses. If you can't get him to stop, at least this will educate him so he has a chance of making money.

I really don't know how to stop him refinance his house right now cause he is doing it to get more money out. I just heard from my sister he will pay more than 400k in extra for higher interest rate.
