I've been at it for 30+ years and I just don't get as excited as I used to. I had a pretty good year in college football and I am thrilled about winning a little money but I have become bored with betting in general. My kids are getting older and I am starting to regret all those weekends when I could have been spending more time with them and also the wife. Anyone else ever feel this way in my age group?? The new guys won't agree with me because when I was young I thought betting on sports was the greatest thing in the world to do.

If you are losing (or lost) the passion Harry, step back awhile.
If you think 'capping is a chore now, or it's taking away family time, give it a break.
BOL, I've been reading your posts the past year, you are one of the good guys who 'gets it'.

Gambling shouldn't be one's life. I'm not nearly your age and while I wouldn't say I'm bored by gambling it's fair for me to say it doesn't consume my day to day life. Life is all about enjoying one's passion and if something else replaces the passion you had for gambling so be it.

Plus it's that time of year with College football coming to a close and NFL soon after. Unless you bet college basketball it really is a down time til March Madness/MLB.

Yes I did. I actually think because it has been such a part of my life for so long it's just habit now. Hey Dante you don't go on any motorcycle forums do you?? Someone posts with the same name on a Harley forum I visit.

OF course you feel as if it takes time away because it does. Try to balance as best you could and make time. Make smart decisions and discuss and live with it. It is very time consuming and hard.

harrington, when I retire from sports wagering, I will never place another wager. The greatest decision I ever made was when I stopped betting on baseball at the All Star break in 1983(Fred Lynn's grand slam). It gave me the needed rest to be successful. Good Luck

Harrington, I know exactly how you feel. I'm 54 and have been gambling on sports and horses for 25 years or so. I started keeping better records of my wins and losses 8 years ago. While I've had 7 winning years of the last 8, I haven't won a lot of money. I estimated each year how many hours I spent on the computer watching the lines, doing research, watching games, etc. My hourly return on my investments in bets is pretty low. It wouldn't be worth it at all to me or my family if I didn't use some of my winnings to buy some things for my wife and kids. Still, I wonder about the same things you do nearly every day. I think I can say for certain that I could have still enjoyed gambling on a smaller scale and have spent more time with my wife and kids.

In the last year I have reduced the wagering that I do. It just gets old for me...been doing it for over 10 years and like you say its not as important in my life right now. A few weeks ago I went on a run for over 35k....but have only made 4 bets since then and lost all of them so I stopped.....but I am playing todays NFL..

I sometimes go through brief times like this also and it usually just takes a unique event to recharge me like the new year, olympics, little league, world match play, world cup, etc.

here is something I like to do. I keep track of monthly results (every day) and usually a new month presents a new challenge to me.

I know exactly where you coming from though, I have came home a few times in December and felt like "why?". Since Jan 1st I have felt reenergized and I think I owe it alll to trying to win this month, a new challenge.

That settles it...It's WED/DAY

:lolBIG: Nothing gets me fired up like a betting on a bunch of 11 year old orientals (I mean Asians). :lolBIG:

Sad to say I have made several bets on the LLWS.

I have gotten bored recently and pulled money out of my account. I love the NFL playoffs but decided to focus more on family and work. I am sure I will be back one day.

I have hit the wall myself ever since this summer after having this define my life for along time. I will be taking a very long extended break after March Madness. Besides the burnout, it is also the current climate with the Offshore world in general & the BOS fisaco etc. I lost some good money and futures over at Millenium & V wager which I still am smarting from. I am actually excited about not having to make wagers after the tournament and will not look back for awhile.

This combined with not living in VEGAS has most certainly put a damper on my gambling enthusiasim over the most recent months.

In Vegas, I literally hated to go to sleep............as there were so many good oppurtunities .......be it sports, video poker, slots, or something else.........and loved every minute of it.
