I will say this, I would vote for GARVEY before BIG MAC.

Garvey had one MVP season and four other top six finishes.

Four GOLD GLOVE awards.

EIGHT .300+ seasons

TEN ALL-STAR seasons

Also had some dramatic postseason performances.

Actually, GARVEY is somewhat underrated these days.

Mac delivered what the game needed at exactly the right time.
Garvey delivered his load at exactly the right time with multiple partners.

Garvey's worst statistics are his low walk totals (429 career BB) and his strikeout to walks and OBP .

.329 career OBP is pretty laughable .

Really hard to believe how little consideration Garvey has received. Compare him to his peers from the 70's and it is a no brainer.

I see Garvey has 50% vote in this to make the HOF, wow.

Can't believe this is even a debate..Garvey is nowhere near a a HOFer.

He was a good player for his time.

He was durable, a very solid player , not a great player though.

Garvey? Ya gotta be kidding me.

Tony Perez barely made it, and he crushes Garvey in most catergory's. Garvey is not in the same class as Perez, Stargell or McCovey, Harmon Killebrew, 4 HOFers who played 1st base in the 70's.

Garvey because of his lack of power (for a first baseman) and piss poor OBP Is behind NON HOFers from the 70's...Dick Allen, Boog Powell, Norm Cash.

He is more comparable to Geroge Scott, Lee May guys that are not even close.

This is off the top of my head too, maybe I'm missing somebody.

Garvey was a vacuum cleaner at first, and was very clutch, had many 30 dinger years which is the equivlent to a 50 dinger year now.

Funny how mlb pimped Sosa and Mcgwrie to save their boring game and in turn are pretty ungreatfull afterwards.

We are talking about HOF. 1st base defense means pretty much ZERO for that.

And without looking up Garvey's exact stats, I'm pretty sure he only had ONE 30 HR season.... and again that would be a lot less than his peer 1st baseman had.

Exactly!!! You can substitute Bud Selig for mlb and be saying the same thing. Bud Selig ruined the game when he thought he was saving it...

Is there a reason any of us care about Steve Garvey or Mark McGwire? I do not. Both were xcellent ball players but irrelevant today. Big Mac seems to have found his niche as a batting coach but both are old guys that were lucky enough to have been damn good ball players. I would rather hear from Jose Canseco. At least he was interesting and proven to be truthful.
