Don't be surprised if Cal Ripken gets very close to 100% of the HOF vote!

While I don't think he's in the top 50 baseball players of all time or anywhere close for that matter, I would not be surprised if he approached or broke Nolan Ryan's record of highest % ever elected.

98% or higher for Cal.

A picture from Cal Ripken's retirement speech from left to right;
Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson and Earl Weaver.

Eddie Murray was the only baseball player Cal thanked during his speech for showing him the way to approach the game at the big league level.

J-Man, a few days ago, I did look for any props on either Pinny/Bodog (my only books) on the HOF voting, but nada.

Yeah, I expect like 98% ... with a few votes going against him just because of his career statistics not all that impressive in some people's biased eyes (but you and me know how to point out all the good CONSISTENT statistics as well).

In reality, he is definitely a first ballot HOF'er, I was just trying to pull J-Man's string...

:lolBIG: I wasn't going there.. Cal's not my favorite player or anything, but certainly a 1st ballot HOFer...Way too much was made of the streak, and I think that's a shame and somewhat overshadows his career...

It didn't help him any that the Orioles became a medicocre (at best) team for a good portion of his career.

thank god this is over, Ive got a ton of money tied up in that Free money Pinny prop of who would get a higher % of the votes Cal or Gywnn, I did not realize the cash was tied up for a year when I put all that in. good news is I would have lost all this cash during a stupid binge I went on in July so it was sort of in a LOCKBOX. but Im glad to have it back when tomorrow when the results that Cal beat Gwynn is out.

Won't get 98% there are some writers sending in a blank ballot due to the McGwire/Roids deal. P.S Tom Seaver got the highest percentage of hall of fame votes.

Okay Ryan is #2, Seaver is slightly above .

The voting has evolved, which explains why Tom Seaver is the highest vote-getter by percentage, I don’t think that anyone would say that Tom Seaver is the No. 1 greatest pitcher that ever lived. It’s a function of how the voting has changed.

So if anybody has a chance to be unanimous or close to it ,or for that matter just to exceed Tom Seaver’s vote total , I think it’s Cal Ripken.
Seaver won 311 games, three Cy Young Awards and finished with a 2.86 ERA. Decent numbers, but not nearly as impressive as Ripken’s, beginning with 2,632.

Ripken often has said he doesn’t care how many votes he receives. What matters is being a part of the Hall.

“The beauty of the game, in my opinion, is its players and its former players. That tells the story and that celebrates the game,” Ripken said in August. “And if you can add to that, if you can join that group, that’s a very special honor.”

Anyone who DOESN"T vote for him is a moron, and should lose their voting privilidges. Same thing for the people who vote FOR Rose.

To me all this 1st time ballot shit is stupid. You either are or are not a Hall of Famer. It should not matter who else is up for a vote. Are his stats going to improve for the next year. So all this 1st time stuff is a joke to me. SOme media made up bullshit. If you do not get in the 1st time you should be done.

Seaver got 425 votes on 430 ballots 98.84%

Ripken would need 569 votes on the 575 ballots to get 98.95% and pass seaver for highest %.

Don't think it happens I think he will get 90-94%

Prima donna. Overrated because he was white. Should have sat down to rest to help his team many times. Other than that, he is OK.

These are exactly my feelings on it. In fact, I have posted as such in other threads.
