VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland (ex-STONE TEMPLE PILOTS) has released the following "open letter" to Charlie Weis, the current head coach of the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team:

"Okay Charlie, at this point I am going to assume that you haven't spoken to the Giants' organization about their 'potential coaching job.' But LEAVING NOTRE DAME, your alma mater, without having achieved really anything of monolithic proportions like you've promised us, is absurd and unfair. So at this point, I will get on my knees and beg. Don't do it, coach. Don't do it! Stay and do what you promised; your team, your school, the fans, the legacy deserves to be taken to the promised land. Your recruits, Charlie, who are just beginning to trickle in, came to play for you. You! Not someone else and they are coming to South Bend to those brutal winters from places all over the country — from the South to Southern Cal, just to be led to the promised land. Jimmy Clausen, the most highly recruited player in high school football, committed to Notre Dame. When asked why in a recent interview, he said to play for coach Weis and get a new environment. Why? The promised land, the crown jewel, the national championship. But we can't start talking about Notre Dame in the same breath as a national championship yet. You've gotta win one. The team's gotta go out there and get one. We, the Irish nation, fight for it with you together and we will all win one together and walk away to the promised land together.

"Yours truly, Scott Weiland, rock n' roll singer, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, VELVET REVOLVER, legacy and Notre Dame football fan."

As long as Notre Dame has high academic standards the Irish will not win anything ever. They simply can't get any of the Offensive and defensive lineman needed to compete at a high level.

There's only so many smart 6' 4" 280 pound lineman looking to go to college who can qualify for Notre Dame. They will never win until they lower their standards.

according to many recruiting insiders...Notre Dame has the #1 recruiting class...which includes 9 of the top 150 prospects...and Notre Dame landed the #1 offensive linemen recruit in Sam Young last season (from the state of Florida)...what are you talking about?

They will NEVER have the top talent & depth needed to compete year in & year out. You can only find so much 5 star talent at all positions who can maintain such high academic standards.

Where it hurts them is on the lines.

They have great QB's, RB's, Recievers, and so on, but they get hurt on the line. You see it whenever they play the bigger schools.

All the smart 6'4" 280-pound linemen go to Nebraska.

It's on the defensive line where they are and will not get the top players. Charlie Weiss is always going to attract offensive talent but until he is able to develop a defense they are going to continue to struggle. Notre Dame fans need to wake up and realize that we are in a new era of college football. They will be a consistent 10 to 15th ranked team each year but if anyone thinks they are going to compete for a National Championship on a consistent basis is in complete denial. The Irish are always going to be over rated (this year was a perfect example.) They simply are not in the class of a USC, Texas, or an Ohio St that will compete for a Natinal Championship every couple of years. I'm not saying they will never win another Natinal Championship but they are a lot farther away from it than a lot of dillusional ND fans want to think.
