How the heck did Auburn get a National Championship snub after going 12-0 a couple years back?

It isn't as if Alabama and Auburn and other southern schools do not get nationwide respect because traditionally they do. That particular year had undefeated USC trouncing undefeated Oklahoma 55-19 in the Orange Bowl. The Big 12 was most definitely overrated that year and just about every other year.

Will we ever again see an undefeated SEC team not get a chance at the title again. I highly doubt it.

main reason was USC beating Auburn at Auburn the year prior

23-0 and Auburn didnt have the greatest preseason ranking, hard to overcome

Auburn just did not start high enough that year. When USC played Texas in Rose bowl, any undefeated sec team would have gotten shut out that year also.
The polls should come out 5 weeks into the season. The Way I look at it,Dennis Dodd of CBS is one of the most powerful guys in the circus that we all love,College Football.
Dennis Dodd is a idiot who will put up his preseason poll in June. When it comes time in late August for the Coaches and media to do their first poll, what do you think they do?They log onto CBS or ESPN just like we do on here.Thats how all these teams get their poll position. Therefore teams national Championship hopes are dependent on what idiots like Dennis Dodd think in Late june.
It is ridiculous.Take my team,Alabama, for example. If for some insane and crazy reason he ranked Alabama in his top 5, and said a few good things about the players coming back, then there would be enough mindless followers who would sit down and rank their teams using the CBS or ESPN poll as their blueprint. It is absurd.I guarantee you if Dennis Dodd put anyteam in his top 10 that did not belong there ,enough of the voters would see that team and put it in their top 15 without even thinking about it(even if they dont belong in the top 25).

good points Rolltide. Maybe we should not rank anyone until after the first few weeks of the season, that way any traditional biases would be illiminated.

AUBURN and ALABAMA have a good commercial on ESPN......thats their best media recognition.

That and ALA hiring a liar and cheat as a head coach recently.

Not a cheat, but a liar. Don't worry, in 3-4 years Saban will find another "challange".

The first polls should come out about Week 6.

Any SEC team that goes undefeated through their schedule, then wins in the SEC title game should automatically be playing for the championship. Doing that seperates the men from the boys, you won't get any pretenders that way.

I believe the best media recognition was "the coaching search" that ESPN promoted daily.
Sure was one of the most covered head coaching searches in a long time. All the media were saying the Bama job is not good and ya da ya da ya da, yet they covered it daily!

Sure is a bunch of coverage over a washed-up program, right?

And to what cheating are you referring to here?
