And why should he leave anyway? Not only does he have the very best college coaching job in football, he has the best players coming in again next year, why he would want to leave!?

Anyway, good to see we can put this silly rumor to bed that Carroll is going to Arizona (Siberia of the NFL,when it comes to winning) :103631605

It's official?

Sure hope so. USC is going to be undefeated next season but only if Mastermind Pete Carroll was in charge..

Well you know how these coaches are so it's never 'official' , just ask Miami....he turned down the Miami job, which is probably the most attractive...and says he's staying.

Fish,

That Railbird said 'book it' should have told you he was staying put.

Didn't Saban say the same thing, then 2 weeks later, off he goes. I dont think I would put to bed any rumor until all coaching vacancies have been filled.

Anytime Railbird speaks about anything non-tennis related, he finds a way to stick both feet in his mouth.

Why would Carroll want to leave? He has total control. He has a winning program. If he goes to Miami he's guaranteed to struggle for the first couple seasons.

I know Miami would offer him more money but money can't be everything in life.

Carroll is proving what everyone in the NFL already knows - he is not up to the challenge of coaching big-boy football. He can stay at his little palace at Southern Cal where he can be the dictator and control freak, and run pass routes and fake people getting thrown off of buildings. But he will never be validated as a coach until he goes back to the varsity and wins (which would never happen and he knows it).

Actually that is pretty much the bitter truth. But....

I've been to a couple of USC games and seen him running around with the players in warm ups. The guy is having a blast. Having a great time and still pounding out $3mil+ a year and win a couple of national champs without hardly ever seeing bad weather.... Man, cant blame the guy.

would you take anything away from Lou Holtz because he didnt have success in the NFL

Yes I would. Lou Holtz was a great college coach, but not at the top of the profession.

What I don't understand about this coaching merry-go-round that happens every offseason is how these guys get out of their contracts so easily. I'm quite happy with Petrino coming to the falcons, but the guy had just signed a 10-year deal only several months ago! Are coaches' contracts totally non-binding or what...

They write it into their contracts beforehand
