Good night John Boy, good night offshore gaming
by The Green Doberman

Kill the body and the head will fall. Senator Frist must have been heeding this advice. The U.S. government has apparently slayed Goliath, Samson, and the Minotaur in one swift swipe of the scythe.

As most Americans slept on Thursday morning, January 11, the unthinkable happened. Pinnaclesports.com, the Goliath of offshore books, went out like a lamb. A simple posted message on the site bid all a good night. Email confirmations ran rampant like blood in the streets.

It's over, boys, it's over. Put up your scalping knives, your bonus forks, and your arbing spoons. The picnic has been called on account of rain. How appropriate, they say it always rains at an execution.

Eventually Chicken Little would be right. The boy who cried wolf has finally met his maker. Get some flowers tomorrow and pay your respects at the grave of offshore gambling. The king is dead, love live the king!

The only reduced juice we will now see will be in our Minute Maid cartons left spoiling in the refrigerator. Thank you Lobbyists, Thank you child-molesting Senators, thank you moralists who decide what is right for me. As a God-fearing, tax paying, productive American citizen I thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving me from the evils of online gaming and those terroristic threats operating under the guise of Banana Republics.

Off to work.

Nothing else to do at this point.

Got a few pennies left at CRIS. Guess they'll be gone by Friday.

C Note,
That was the point that this is the tip of the iceberg and essentially the ride is over.
I'm sure every prickfuck in Vegas will be spinning this to their advantage. Can't wait to hear the diarrhea diatribe that is coming.

Fish must have a helluva deal with Matchbook.
He was offering-

Exchanges are the future in SB.

Pinnacle could be planning to open a US book in every US state that allows gaming. The new federal law specifically oks intrastate gambling.

Very unlikely Pinnacle did this to just dissapear. My guess - going public or gonna take a real stab at legal onshore wagering.

Why close? Is Pinnacle publicly traded? I thought not. Rooms in Vegas will be $300 a night (for the Flamingo!) for March Madness now. Have to find a local if any around any more. Went off-shore because there weren't any around any more in first place.

Good post GD, I agree 100%. I still think in 2-3 years we will have some type of regulation. But short term its over.

At least I went down swinging.

Was on UNLV/Wyoming over 141. Got lucky that it went to OT but glad to have a winner with my last bet at Pinny. :lolBIG:

I'm trying to see the upside in this. Rather than scrambling and moving to different books/locals, I'm thinking about bailing on betting altogether pending further developments.

I'm thinking about the Seinfeld episode where George stops thinking about sex and all of a sudden he is brilliant in everything else he thinks about. While betting did provide some supplemental income for me, I spent a lot of time (and mental energy) on it and watching games, etc. Walking away from it could be freeing.

GD posted...

...why blame anyone other than Pinnacle? Pinnacle did this of their own free will; the UIGEA(Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) did nothing to change the illegality of bookmaking in the USA, that's why Pinnacle and other books were located offshore. The UIGEA only tries to make it more difficult to fund and withdraw from offshore betting accounts; instead of fighting back with innovative solutions, Pinnacle voluntarily folded. I have to think Sean1 is correct in thinking that Pinnacle must be eyeing some kind of legal operation in the USA in the future. But for today, your ire should be directed at Pinnacle, not at the politicians, Republican and Democratic, I might add, in Wash. DC.

You know, it's not a big secret who "Henry" really is. No doubt the US authorities know. Do you think them pulling the plug has anything to do with fear of the US Gov't messing with families, US assets etc?

Actually, its more like the perpetual glass half-full crowd that fills this place has been proven incorrect.

Alot of egg to be worn on alot of faces here.
