This has happened too many times for me to just write it off as random.

I drive a 95 Acura Integra Special Edition. It's nice but it's not anything that should be getting so many random offers.

In the last two months, this has happened to me six times now.

Someone will either catch me in traffic or show up at my house saying they saw the car as they drove by.

Each time they always start off with "I can pay cash right now" blah blah blah.

Most of the times it's fairly rich looking people. There was an Arab in a Lexus. I just got offered one by a younger guy in an Audi. It's not like the people that are making offers are bottom of the barrel or anything but it just seems really fishy.

The dialogue is almost always the same too. They offer to pay in cash, I say I'm not interested, then every single time they say they can pay more than Blue Book.

Anyone heard anything? It just sounds too good to be true and the fact that people have just shown up at my house are making me kinda weirded out about it.

Jake,
When you ask the question in this way...
"Is there some automobile scam I don't know about?"
...of course, the answer is yes.

Now unfortunately, I don't know the specifics of the scam either, but rest assured, a scam exists and a new one will tomorrow. Seriously though, the same exact thing happened to me within the past 6 months...some black dude appeared out of nowhere as I was filling up with gas and just had to buy my '96 Suburban, with cash and he showed me a wad of cash that he said was $5,000. It scared the shit out of me...and after it was over I was really pissed because evidently, I must look like an easy mark as he only targeted me at a gas station with about 20 pumps and plenty of other cars, although in retrospect, my car probably was the oldest and the only one worth less than the $5,000 he professed to possess. I would really be freaked out if people showed up at my house trying this scam; I would report it to the police!

Interesting. As long as it's not counterfeit, I don't see an angle here. Do you think any two parties are affiliated? Is there anything about your ride that might warrant extra attention?

If someone wants to buy my ride and let's me name the price, it's a done deal.

Not sure if it's any different than the normal Special Edition but I've seen a ton around town and mine is the only one with gold Acura symbols... all the others have silver. I haven't heard a thing about that meaning much though, other than that it looks exactly like the rest of em.

Also, I have no clue if the parties are involved but it's the same thing every time... One of the guys who offered me money and came to my house out of nowhere (the Arab in the blue Lexus) was really weird. At that time, I lived in a brand new sub division and there was a ton of dirt lots and building and whatnot. I lived at the very end of a dead end and was pretty much all by myself at that house. This guy couldn't have just been traveling by and saw it... He had to come looking and saw my car which really weirds me out. The subdivision was 15 minutes from the heart of Boise and like I said, there really wasn't anything else out there. 75% of the houses hadn't even gone up yet. Just a weird deal.

I have no idea. I was driving a friend's lexus SC430 about a month ago in Ohio.

Around midnight I went in to a store to buy some beer. When I came out, a couple offered me cash for the car.

I told them it was not mine and walked back into the gas station where there were 3 or 4 other people.

I figured if they did not leave, I would call the cops and have them walk me to my car.

They drove off and so did I.

I have no idea what they wanted, but if something doesnt seem legit, it prob is not.

It could be fake cash (Doubtful)
I think they planned to rob me.. You know... They wanted to look at the car.I figure some idiot opens up the doors, the trunk, etc There are two of them. You talk to one, the other swipes your wallet or stereo or sunglasses or shit in the trunk or whatever.

They might not get crap from 90% of people, but if you snag $500 from someone every day it is a pretty good scam.

If something does not seem right, I just avoid it.
