So, I was at my sales conference all week (btw, the snow in Vail was not as bad as expected) and came home to find that Pinny had closed shop to us U.S. citizens. As such, I posted up at Matchbook (largely b/c I don't think my pinny w/d will hit until after the weekend). Anyway, I'm new to the whole exchange thing. Can someone give me a quick explanation as to reading the screen at Matchbook. I see the spread and its price, but not really understanding the dollar amounts next to the spread price. Is this the $ amount of tickets available at that price??? Is it a max buy at given price...etc??:ughhh:

Dollar amount is what's available at each line at that time, amount on left is the best available offer, as you go to the right those are worse offers.

Take whats there, or make your own offer. MB keeps 2% of the payoff.

Multiply payoff by .98 to see what you get, compare that to other books.

Fish shakes his head everyday at me and asks why more posters are not with Matchbook.

Thanks, Doug. I'm a big lurker, and I am aware that you are very well-educated regarding this "hobby". I hashed it out w/ my brother for an hour or so after reading your reply, and it makes sense now. I was not confused with the creation of a market, but what goes on once a market is created (hence, my ? on the $ amounts posted next to the lines). You'd think someone like me (a guy in finance working to catch/create arbs) would have understood, but for some reason I couldn't wrap my mind around it. Anyway, thanks again! I already funded and played tomorrow's games at Matchbook, and am very happy with the lines and prices I received.

BTW, for those Pinny customers stressing payouts, I received mine in about 4 hours (made request this afternoon and received this evening via neteller). I'm not a big player (w/d about $500). I was worried about it after reading all the "Pinny Pay" threads, but no problem here.

I just signed up with matchbook as well today. I'm still a bit confused. Why do they offer a NE +5.0 at -137 when it seems like -101 is available?

The -137 is there because someone put up the offer hoping that an some idiot takes it. At the time there might not have been anyone offering NE +5. Don't even bother looking at anything other than the numbers to the left. They are the best offers.

I feel the same way. I do have some funds there and I will not place anything unless I know it will be matched right away.

It is VERY, VERY simple!!!

After a week or so of placing small wagers for practice, you will begin to wonder how you have existed without MATCHBOOK in the past.

Again, it's VERY EASY TO USE and UNDERSTAND.

Yes and when there is not enough money there to bet on what good is it i want to bet a certain # and if i cant get it off then what plus it looks like i would have to bring in an accountant to figure out what the hell i have going! I am sure Pinny will pickup on this idea and it will be at a much bigger pace !

$1

But one can wager the LINE directly to the RIGHT of the one that has the $1........and may have $10,000+

For instance, the betting screen may look like this.........

COLTS +4 $1 at +105.......$4,494 at +104........$12,339 at +103
RAVENS =4 $849 at -106......$13,333 at -107.......$12,333 at -108

Meanwhile, the line at Pinny in relation to MATCHBOOK would be something close to........

COLTS +4 +101
RAVENS -4 -109

This above scenario is why 90%+ of my straight wagers are at MB rather than Pinny...........BETTER REDUCED VIG!

Gotcha and you have to pay 2% vig correct?

ONLY on winning wagers!

So essentially to make things easy, just add two cents to the MATCHBOOK price to get the true moneyline price.

Now, many times you will find Matchbook beating Pinny by much more than what I have listed in my example.

Also, MANY times if one takes say the the entire amount on the Ravens at the -4 for the $849 total amount........withing a few seconds they will be another offer placed at that price so one can wager again at that price.........ALL THE TIME BEATING PINNYS NUMBERS.

VERY, VERY seldom will Pinny ever a better number than Matchbook..........and I feel sort of sorry for those players that do not have a MB account.

Seems like they're very good for very big events, not so good for smaller less visible games.
