Yeah, that looks like a real terrorist training camp. Isn't this where the port security/anti-gambling bill came from? Bush was actually against this thing to begin with, but then he lost his balls.

my uncle lives there, apparently it costs 50$ USD just to walk in the front door of that hotel (could be BS)....

its very modern, a place where money and status means everything....

Yeah. I'm reading where Dubai is an important port in the Middle East. Lots of Western companies are starting to set up shop there. That's how we take over countries now. Get them to subscribe to capitalism. Worked for Russia. Now working for China.

Once we get them to our side both sides are economically dependent upon each other and wouldn't think of going to war with each other. Too much money would be lost if a war was started.

Yeah, why not? I could stand being anywhere for 4 to 6 months and it could turn out to be really cool. At the very least you'll have had an experience that most Americans haven't...

More than enough time to setup a new bank account and Neteller account while you're there.

I didn't think of that--that would be what we call an "ancillary benefit"

saw a special concerning the construction of the "palm" island you have pictured above, they spared no expense and the country is quite modern if memory serves me correct. the one draw back to living in a muslem country...no partying allowed bro. not like the far east where those with an unusual taste can have their needs met. just something to think about bud.

Like I said, I could deal with anything for 4 to 6 months--even a Muslim country (assuming no one was shooting at me)

of course no hookers or drugs, (not sure about gambling) I wonder if there is a casino in that sailboat hotel....

if there is it is probably 1000$ per hand minimum

I'm having a huge de ja vu, you ever said this before? No hookers and drugs? Everywhere has hookers and drugs. What do you think the boys in WW1 and WW2 did on their leave?

of course there are hookers and drugs,

what I mean, is I personally woudnt use those services/substances in dubai....

woudnt be too wise (imo)

in Thailand for example, hookers might be okay, but I still woudnt use drugs there, nor would I in Malaysia....

I just did some checking. The hotel shaped like a sailboat is Burj al Arab and Expedia.com has 1 night listed for just over US4000. It's the world's only 7-star hotel.

As far as alcohol is concerned, non-Muslims are allowed to drink alcohol and most bars are located in hotels. They also have duty-free alcohol at the airport.

As far as hookers are concerned, the authorities look the other way in certain establishments.

Gambling is not allowed. I would still be able to bet by remote controlling either a computer at work or my friend's canadian computer.

The unit of currency is the UAE dirham and there are 3.67 dirham for each US dollar.

I think I could handle it for 4 to 6 months, especially considering that I don't pay rent. I would get all my housing and food paid for during this time.

Great idea regularguy. I currently have access through my friend's Canadian bank account but I don't like the idea of relying upon someone else. I kick myself for not setting up a bank account in Singapore when I was there.

Holy crap that tennis court is insane!

Gambling is NOT allowed in Dubai. They have the Dubai World Cup every year and its the richest day in horseracing. The Shieks put up like 12 mil of their own coin, but there is absolutely no betting in that country. They get 100,000 people to watch the races, and when the horses are coming down the stretch everyone is just standing there in total silence (becuase they don't have bets down)
