Here's my story:

23 yr old. Just graduated college in May. Recently got a job as a banker, making a shitty $45,000 a year. Don't mind it, but don't love it. Starting to play with the idea of moving to Vegas to pursue sports betting dreams. I feel like I'm losing out on life if I dont try this out once in my life.

I'm young so I can afford to go broke if it doesn't work out.

Anyone else have this crazy idea, and if so did u go through with it, and how did it work out ?

ps: who wants to join

I did roughly the same thing when I was your age...worked out pretty well. Stayed in Vegas until my ex-wife wanted to move back east but by that time there was enough offshore options....at your age, and considering you've already graduated from college I'd give it a shot....

I am always curious as to why people would move to Vegas if their dream is sports betting. Vegas won't even take real bets anymore.

how much of a bankroll are you starting with? I think without 20k you will be playing with scared money and unless you are putting 150k a month thru betting wise than it wouldn't be worth it. If you win 2% on your money bet you will make 3k a month which is OK money. Just my opinion

I've never been to Vegas but was thinking about a vacation there during the first round of March Madness. You say they don't take real sportsbets anymore. Could you elaborate on this. No sense of me going if I get get down some decent action on the tournament. Thanks.

The tournament should be fine...March Madness and NFL Playoffs they get their volume so getting down shouldn't be a problem.

But moving their for year round sports betting is a joke. Trying to get even a couple dimes on a game outside of the high volume periods is like you are a terrorist or a bank robber.

stick to banking and 45K a year!

The point is that he's damn young at 23 and he can always go back into banking at any point. I'm of the opinion that if he wants to do it he should go for it. Worst case scenario, he hates it, he gets tapped out or whatever. At that point he's in his mid 20's with a degree and experience in his field and he can get back into the banking game. Best case scenario, he does well at sports betting or finds some other new occupation or interest he enjoys more. I've always been of the opinion that you should take your shots in life because over the years you start to regret the decisions you *didn't* make and the things you *didn't* do more than the things you *did* do that didn't work out.

Anyway, Wiseman02 if you want to do it and want whatever insights I can provide get my email address from the mods and drop me a line...

Iceman is technically correct, but again I'm of the opinion that you should just go for it. At your age there's nothing wrong with living by the seat of your pants for awhile. You're 23 with a degree--I know lots of people that age who are nowhere near being done with school. Besides, its not the least bit uncommon for people just out of college to travel or join the Peace Corps or whatever for a few years. That's essentially what you're doing, only you're going to Las Vegas....

My answer would probably be different if you were a 40 year old guy with a wife and kids to support that was thinking about quitting an established career, but take advantage of your freedom and relative lack of responsibility.

What he means is the books in town are typically very squeamish about people betting large sums that give the impression of being "sharp" players. Unless you're thinking of betting a few dimes a game you'll be fine--for a vacation during March Madness you'll have a great time.

Take the 45 k a year. You'll get pay increases, and you'll be just fine. You can gamble on the side with the internet or locals. One out of 100 can make a living gambling sports, and it's especially tough in Vegas where you have to do leg work and compete with gambling syndicates. Vegas is a last resort for sports gamblers. I'd rather have 3 decent internet outs than be in Vegas.

Exactly...my post was geared more towards the guy that wanted to move to Vegas and make sports betting a career. If you want to make sports betting a career, you are much better off playing online.

u can do it but don't quit your job yet. you'll need it. you can get better numbers establishing outs with locals than u could in vegas. i'd be careful with the offshore joints for now.

Most of the posters are right about the advantages of betting offshore but I'd say the experience alone would be worth it. You're 23 for goodness sakes....go for it I say
