I'm going to wait until everything pans out to make a prediction. Signing a bunch of free agents doesn't neccesarily mean success. The most recent example would be the Mets 4-5 years ago. I think they're still paying Mo Vaughn and Roberto Alomar

If I had to guess I'd say just above .500, with 83 wins.

I will go with 81. They will be better, However, They haven't done much with their pitching. I don't think Prior can stay healthy, and sometimes after players get huge contracts they tend to slack off. I will say they are a .500 team; maybe a little better, maybe a little worse,

We shall see though.

They're the cubs so that means expectations should always be very low--they're still not better than the Cards or Astros despite what ESPN may lead you to believe--i see them finishing between 74-80 wins complete with at least 10 classic pinella tantrums

And who do the cubs have--zambrano? marshal? I'm not including prior for obvious reasons--either way they aren't as good as the cards and will finish no higher than third

with all do respect sir, the cubs have the following....

1. Zambrano - One of the best in the game

2. Lilly - Won 15 games in tough AL East, now will not have to face DH either, 15 games should be minimum he wins.

3. Hill - Had electric stuff in the 2nd half of the season, he truly looked like a star pitcher in the making in the 2nd half last year.... but we will see

4. Marquis - all the cubs want from him is to give them 6-7 innings per start to dave the bullpen, giving the cubs talented bullpen i could see marquis going back to his old form winning 12-15 games.

5. prior/miller - this spot will be saved for one of these 2 guys. buth coming off some arm problems, prior hasb een throwing and says he should be ready, if he actually is then who knows what he does i want him to prove once again he can be a top pitcher, so ill wait and see with him

* either way you look at it, its much improved from last season, then you throw in soriano, derosa, floyd on offense and I definitely think we compete in the NL Central I hope anyway

no way lilly wins 15 games... derosa i would not count on and floyd will get injured... marquis is a batting practice pitcher... other than zambrano who is a stud i think u can only hope to rely on hill (a star in the making imo)... if prior can stay healthy, i see one stud who will win 18, two guys that could win 15 (hill and prior), lilly wins 12-13 and marquis will be lucky to win 10... as for the offense i love aram, soriano, dlee but thats all they have... i wouldve let pie have a shot instead of that stiff floyd... my prediction around 85 wins if they dont have injuries, if the same cast gets injured id say they will be lucky to win 80...

first of all are you saying Barrett, murton, jones are bad offensive players??? If you are then more power to you but I would disagree 100%. Barrett is the best hitting catcher in the NL and should hit over .300 with some pop. Jones will give us his 25 hr 85 rbi type season. And if floyd gets hurt big deal hes not even a starter unless we trade jones! Soriano is going to play center field.

I got him projected as an 11-10 type. 3.90 ERA - 1.20 WHIP.
I like his K/IP ration though.

I'm a baseball junky, won the CDM fantasy league last year, I give him upside of 15 wins, but I need more than 16 starts to project higher.

I do projections from November - February, until my eyes fall out.

p.s. Cubbies signed Cliff Floyd today

off topic - Keep an eye on Cole Hamels, that kid got the right stuff.

barrett the best hitting catcher in the nl??? u are really on something, with the exception of last year where he hit .306 he has only hit over .270 twice since hes been in the majors which his first year was 1999... hardly the best hitting catcher in the nl there is a guy named brian mccann that plays for the braves just to name one...

murton???? u are really smoking something, while he may one day can be a very good major league player, how can u say he is a good offensive player when he has only 595 career at bats...

jones, lou pinella hasnt even spoke to him since he was hired, that tells me he is on his way out... but eveb if he stays, here is a guy who has never driven in more than 85 runs in his career which started in 1999

soriano, is a great player, but lets be honest your strenghts should be up the middle their 2b and ss are average at best, and soriano moving to center does nothing for me defensively, they shouldnt ask him to play his third position in three years especially center field...

this is just another homer chicago post from u... an fyi, u may laugh but i think the pirates will finish higher in the central than the cubs...

mccann is a good hitting catcher also, but i would take barrett any day of the week, he is a 2 time silver slugger award winner for catchers. He is going to have a great year offensively trust me on that... Murton hit .297 last year and .313 in the 2nd half, doesnt strike out makes great contact and is very patient at the plate. Jones .285 85 rbi for only 4 mil a year in this crazy market is a steal if you ask me... i know its offseason but you need to do some studying I can see you dont know much about the Cubs at all

lmao, i need to do some studying... to say that u would take barrett over mccann is idiotic, to say that murton is a solid big leaguer at this point in his career is moronic, to rely on a guy that has never had over 85 rbi in your lineup no matter what he makes is absurd, trust me i know more baseball than u forgot... lick your bears balls in the nfl forum but dont come in here talking about how great the cubs are when they have many holes... if u think id be comfortable as a manager with soriano in centerfield, which last time i checked is a very important position on the baseball field, your insane, hes never played the position... good luck to u and please bump this thread when u wake up one day in the regular season and understand what im saying...
