Don't worry-I have picked out the TV--but I have a few stupid questions.

I have Directv and they will not be able to come replace the dish until end of Feb. However, they do not offer local channels in my area--so I would need an Antenna.
Where do I get one of these and approximate price??
I would be set then to watch the Superbowl and Daytona 500 correct??
Also, I have seen some negative comments about the Directv DVR--is it really worth it??

Many Thanks

Check eBay, they have a ton of options and pretty good prices.

DVR, I couldn't and wouldn't live without it.

If you can't get local channels, you want to get the waiver so you can get HD channels through Directv, the ones in the channel 80s, NY HDs. Directv DVR blows compared to Tivo, it isnt even close. Everyone that I know who has had both has switched back, and I am going to as well.

If your choice is dtv, then get high def dvr (older model, not new mpeg one), and you will be fine.

Using an antenna for HDTV reception is fine, in most cases (unless you live far from a tower) the quality is actually better than satellite or cable. Go to BestBuy or any electronics store and they should have indoor antennae (rabbit-ears) starting around $20 all the way up to high-tech outdoor, mounted antennae for an arm and a leg.

THANKS for the feedback guys--not being techno-advanced this is giving me a headache.

Can I just use that antenna indoors and pick up HDTV(the one Harrington showed)??
Can someone explain the DTV waiver Matt suggested??
SHould I not get the DTV DVR and get TIVO??

Going on Thurs--your help is appreciated!!!

Also--if anyone knows about Home Theater--I am thinking about the Onkyo 5 piece costs $499 any thoughts??
