If you were transported 10 years back which events could you remember to bet on?

Let's say you were transported 10 years back and you retained the knowledge you had now and your presence didn't change anything in history. Of course you would want to bet on the games that you remembered the score on. It would be a mortal lock.

Which games would you bet on starting at January 24th, 1997 going forward? 1997 seems like less than 10 years ago. How time flies.

I think the one bet that stands out for me would be McGwire's 70 home-run season. I wonder what the over/under would be on that bet.

I would've bet the MNF game when the Jets came back (or was it the Dolphins)....went to a crowded bar....rooted my ass off and taking all local bets at the bar too when they went down huge.

2001 - Indians vs. Mariners - live bet in the 7th inning on the Indians when score was 14-2 Seattle. Indians win 15-14 in extras. :)

Oliver McCall by KO in the second round over Lennox Lewis. I can't even fathom the price on that prop. (edit: meh, I can't believe that was over 12 years ago)

But hell, just let me go 24 hours back to parlay every scheduled game. I won't ever ask for time travel again, I swear.

I was thinking in sports terms but gbogo's post made me remember a financial "bet". I would have bought Amazon and Google.

Anyone who's read this board the past 5-6 years on a regular basis and could go back 10 years would be a milliionaire today no doubt!

And I 'm not talking about knowing which teams one and lost.

In my opinion one of the best sports investments in history (even though it was way before 1997) was when Steinbrenner bought the Yankees with a group from CBS.

It was for $10,000,000.
Only $4,000,000 was the groups (they borrowed).
Steinbrenner only put up $168,000 in equity.

Now his stake in the company is at least 60%, and the Yankees would sell for close to 1,000,000,000 (billion).

If I could go back in time, I'd do this.

Live-bet on Liverpool when down 3-0 at the end of the 1st half against AC Milan in the Champions League match a few years back

Live-bet Texas Tech ML against Minnesota this bowl season

Alternate point spread betting on USC to beat Oklahoma by 35+ in BCS title game

9/21/01.....FSU @ UNC ML +1000. FSU ML was the only loss in a parlay.... cost me $500.

USC vs. Texas ML +1400. In-game betting when they were down 11 in the 4th. I put a little bit on it to cover my original bet on USC.... wish I had unloaded it all.

Taking Giacomo to win in the Kentucky Derby. Betting as heavy as you can on him would not have driven down the odds much at all.
