Police erased airport video of Vick surrendering bottle

<!-- rbox ends here -->
ATLANTA — A security video showing Falcons quarterback Michael Vick surrendering a water bottle to a security screener at Miami International Airport was erased because it would not be needed for evidence.
The Jan. 17 video was part of the investigation into the water bottle with a hidden compartment that an initial police report said contained a "small amount of dark particulate" and an odor consistent with marijuana.
Authorities this week said lab tests showed no evidence of drugs, and the bottle is no longer considered evidence in an investigation. Vick was cleared by police of any wrongdoing.
In a report on its web site, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said it requested a copy of the video on Jan. 18 from the Miami-Dade Police Department under the state's public records law. Police spokesman Robert Williams said at the time that police decided they would not release it because it was part of an open investigation.
On Tuesday, after authorities said the case was closed, the newspaper again requested a copy of the video and was told it had been erased.
According to the newspaper, Williams wrote in an e-mail: "That information was shown to the State Attorney's Office and it was determined by them that no criminal act was committed and no charges were filed. Therefore. this video was deleted from the flash drive since it was not being used in a criminal case."
Williams confirmed today to The Associated Press that the flash drive was erased some time this week, and the case was closed. Williams said he does not know exactly what day and time it was erased.

The N.F.L. has amazing pull. They can make stuff like this and Ron Mexico go away like it never happened.

If this is a case where there was no drugs at all involved then where's the lawsuit from the N.F.L. and Mike Vick? It's pretty obvious that someone made sure that this case was dropped and all the evidence was destroyed.

But the N.F.L. would never do anything like this to protect 1 of it's made up heros.

If security had done anything wrong to Mike Vick you would never hear the end of it. The ACLU and all the political correct monkeys would be all over this and no evidence woul dhave been destroyed.

Only the N.F.L. and a few other of our rich leaders can cover this stuff up. In an airport these days and they had this stuff erased? How powerful is that? Even the police don't have that kind of power without being told to do it!

Well...not necessary to Mike Vick but if there were wrong doings with security in General and a national audience was viewing the tape, someone probably would have pointed something out. Just like watching golf on TV and somebody ball moves and a TV spectator saw it....you know what i'm saying..lol

What do you think Vick's lawyers donated to a charity of the FL police chief's choice to make this one go away?

I dont know what they did but this is way to convenient. You don't just throw away evidence.

Ron Mexico got caught with a bong device. He just did such a great job cleaning out resin that the tests vame back either negative or inconclusive. Vick knew he dodged a bullet and he is smart enough to not get on the soapbox and cry injustice.

One would think since he was on his way to Miami he would just ask baby bro to bring the weed to the limo at the pickup gate.

Cowherd was talking about this earlier today. Something fishy is going on. Not only was evidence destroyed, but originally we heard that it would be several weeks before tests confirmed what type of residue was in the bottle. All of a sudden, a few days later, the test results are negative. A few minutes after he made that point, the wire story about the evidence being destroyed came out.

Plus, he says that last year he was told by the suits to not discuss the Ron Mexico incident when it happened--first time he's ever been asked to not discuss something on the air.

The N.F.L. is a business and they have made a comitment to Mike Vick and like any other business decision they make it would be only logical that they protect their investment.

It's not like they can fire him or anything. The Falcons made a bonehead stupid decision to give this scumbag a contract that makes as married to Vick as any woman anyone has ever seen.

In fact the Falcons couldn't get rid of Vick if they wanted. The best thing is if they forced him into playing a different position. This would be the perfect time to do that, but then again the N.F.L. has promoted him as a QB. How would that help his jersey sales?

That is a very good point. Like Tigers ball was lost on the clubhouse roof and then was found in the cart path?
and when we see a blatant foul in a fb game but the network does not show a replay

You can always tell when the NFL is rigging a game when the announcers don't get all upset when there is a clear misshap by the officials. They just show the replay maybe once and keep silent. When the fix isn't in and the officials miss a call they talk about it the rest of the game.

BULLSHIT! Vick is scum and so is his brother. ATLANTA WILL NEVER WIN A SUPERBOWL WITH HIM AT QB PERIOD! Granted he is a terrific athlete, he sucks as an NFL QB.....I dont know how the Atlanta owners could watch Matt Schaub stand on the sidelines for years! After the herpes, the middle finger incidents, and this, they had a reason to kick his ass to the curb, but noooooooooooo. Good Luck Bobby Petrino.

I don't believe the bottle was a bong. It was used to hide things; there are all kinds of bottles, deoderant bottles, shaving cream, etc. that you can buy that are hollowed out to hide things in. If it wasn't marijuana I wonder what they found inside the bottle.
