Roger Federer. I say underated because he's ridiculous in tennis, but get's no public recognition. None meaning even in Tennis terms. Sampras and Agassi even got commercials and ad time, I've seen Federer in one "This is Sportscenter" commercial. Yes, some of us more keen to sports already know this. The average public however wouldn't know his name from a random prison inmate. Trust me.

It even took me, an avid sports fan, to watch Sportscenter to find out he just destroyed Roddick to head to his 7th straight grand slam title (t-most since 1933). And has won something like 40 straight matches.

He's fucking DOMINANT in this sport.

Anyways, this thread is dedicated to you Mr. Federer.

Something is wrong with the U.S. sports media when they rated T.O's drug overdose more meaningful than Roger Federer's tennis dominance and the World Cup. I like Federer's game a lot, but the guy is getting a little cocky now. He still provides great entertainment though.

Very true.....Federer is the greatest athlete alive today and doesn't get near the respect he deserves. 53-5 record last year in one of the most physically grueling sports imaginable. Federer should go down as not only one of the greatest tennis players ever, but one of the greatest athletes ever as well

correction--Federer was 92-5 a yr ago. He was the first man since '67 to reach ALL Grand Salm finals in a calender year. Almost did the unheard of, win the Grand Slam. WOn 3 instead.

America's leading sport's publication COULD have given tennis a boost in the U.S by deservingly honoring Federer as SI 2006 SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR. Nope, instead they shunned yet another international star for one of their own: D Wade (basketball) :ughhh: ......didn't even win MVP or the scoring title

Its a shame Tennis doesn't get the recognition it use to, not sure if there's just too much going on or what but Tennis doesn't get nearly as much ink as it once did.

amazing streak by Federer and the avg guy doesn't even know who he is.

Exactly. You could miss an awesome 5-set match in the slams because blake or roddick are going to face an inferior opponent.

I never watch tennis anymore and I mean never. When Connors, McEnroe, and Borg were playing I used to watch quite often. But that was before
ESPN and the flood of sports we get on TV today. Anna K. is the only tennis player I would pay to watch but that would be at a nude photo shoot.

Have you seen the girl he's engaged to? You'd think he'd go for a super hottie like the rest of the tennis players. Haha, not quite as bad as when Hewitt was going out with Clijsters...

No one cares about tennis.
I think they used to several years ago when there were competitive Americans.

Foreigners tend to dominate this sport now, so no one cares.
Fedex is probably the best ever-but who cares?

Yeah I really miss the golden time of American Tennis with Agassi, Sampras and for awhile Cheng. I remember I use to be so prepped up when Agassi and Sampras meet in the finals or when Cheng reached number 2 in the rankings. Now the only reason I watch tennis is to check out the latest Anna Kournicova look alike.

But I have to admit, Federer is a beast. Was he always this good? or did everything just click for him last year?
