:ohno:

TV watchers didn't exactly warm up to the NHL's midweek All-Star game, which experienced a 76 percent drop in household viewership from the previous All-Star game in 2004.

Wednesday night's game in Dallas drew a 0.7 Nielsen rating on Versus, the cable channel formerly known as OLN. The game was viewed in an estimated 474,298 households and by 672,948 viewers, down from the 1,985,000 households that saw the 2004 All-Star game on a Sunday afternoon on ABC.

NHL is boring...I wish it was not the case but unless you have a home team this sport is unwatchable.

A friend of mine has some kind of Dish TV and he pays for the NHL package. He couldn't watch the game in his own home because his dish doesn't get Versus.

since the strike, i havent really been all that high on nhl, until just recently. we dont get that much game on tv, but ive discovered this vs channel and oln thats had some good exciting games. back into it now and cant wait for the playoffs.

hockey used to be pretty big, not as big as nfl, etc, but now it seems like its lost zest with the public.

do you guys think the popularity of nhl has decreased because they lack tv coverage in the mainstream or because of the strike or what?

Bingo. And this OLN deal has done nothing but alienate the casual fans.

ESPN or death at this point-at least for the US markets

ur dead on! the strike blew it for me. After the strike the TV ratings plumetted and they were not even that good before that.

I watched on CBC, even though I get Versus. And then, I only watched about half of the game, because it wasn't really a game, but just a no-touch joke exhibition. If I was Marty Brodeur, I would refuse to come next year unless I was guaranteed some defense would be played.

The ALL-STAR game was a joke.Like JMAN stated and I agree with, one needs a team to follow closely........and those that have never done that would be very suprised how great the sport is.A prime example is Billsfan, since I've got her watching/going to Lightning games on a regular basis, is way into it more than before(although she always liked the Lightning(.............and been doing well betting it too.She is on top of the schedule more than I am these days.-FH-

There were three games on NBC at 3:30 yesterday for those of us with the Center Ice package. Not one time I saw a score for the Calgary-Chicago game (started at 3:00, not on NBC). To make the problem bigger, Directv showed the game tape-delayed at 6:30.

Directly related to OLN vs ABC. It's a better product now that in 04' - too bad most can't see it now.

Hockey is the only sport where I fell asleep watching it in the stands. And it was a high scoring game (like 10 goals) and Gretzky was playing.

I only "watch" when I bet on it.... which is rare.
