I agree , its very sad. Always had a soft spot for animals and wish more people did. Ive noticed that most gamblers do.More people need to be like us!

This should have happened the DAY he broke that leg, stupid owners looking to score as much cash out of this animal as possible...only eneded up causing it more misery!

Hey.....you got my byline. I want royalties. Nevermind. I think the owners and doctors thought they could save him. I think it was worth the effort.

I'm usually skeptical of people's motives but in this case I do think it was from the heart.
Here is a quote from his owner Gretchen Jackson ..Gretchen Jackson's quote from the Baltimore Sun, "We'd always try if there is any shot for him to make it. (regarding Barbaro's catastrophic injury in the Preakness) We have, over in our field right now, horses who are useless, who didn't do as much as he did. But they work for you, and you have a responsibility to take care of them. They've given us so much. No, there was never a doubt that we'd do all we could for him. Hopefully, he'll have a life."

Objection, you hit the nail on the head. If any of these posters knew about the area of SE PA where the horse racing and jumping community came from would realize that this was something done from the heart and not the wallet. One, because of their lifelong connection with equine athletes. Two, because these folks come from blue-blood where the money runs VERY deep. Granted, it can be argued that people always want more money, however I side with love of a Derby winner as being the primary motive of the Jacksons. The motives of the swindlers at New Bolton, that's another story.

as soon as they came to the conclusion that he wouldn't be able to use that hind leg to natuarally breed they had to put him down.

how old is a 4 year old horse in human years

I hear anywhere between 2-2.5 years per horse year, so you're looking at 8-10 here.
