OT: DIRECTV Reception help????

I came home from work today and everything was all fucked up. First off my Directv isn't receiving local or HD channels. (I get the CW but not ABC, NBC, CBS. I also get ESPNEWS but not ESPN and TNT) Here is the kicker though I am not getting any phone service either. I can use the internet but I get no dial tone.

Can somebody please tell me if these two problems are related? Am I unable to get some satellite service because my phone service is out or are these two separate issues and just happen to be a coincidence?

Seems like a coincidence....reboot your receiver & see if that fixes anything.

Your going to have to call Directv and tell them your problem that you are having and I hope you have a cell phone since you have no phone to call them.Most likely a service tech person is going to have to come to the house and check your problems.I had something just like this but had a phone through AT&T not through DirectV but through my phone line was bad and couldnt get signal.That sounds what you have to me but maybe im wrong.Ask to find out if this will cost you I got lucky and mine was free but they may charge you.Good Luck Gravy

I had DTV for 3 years before moving...never had it plugged into the phone line.

Yes AT&T is what I have also. I also shell out an extra $2.99 a month for that WirePro insurance so if anything is wrong with the inside lines they will fix them for free. It seems like my phone goes out once a year where I live. I think it is a scam the phone companies are running to get some service call work and fatten their pockets.

I made an appointment for an AT&T guy to come out tomorrow. Do I need a DirecTV guy to pay a visit too?

You might have to but wait to see what happens when the phone guy comes out.But like Viking said and I do the same you really dont need to have your Directv pluged into the phone unless you order movies and sports events.If your Directv wont work call them on the phone but unplug your box first and reboot it and if that doesnt work call them.Good Luck to you.Gravy

Yes I did thanks. It was two separate issues. My outside phone line aparently got knocked out. I think its bullshit though because it happened once a year for the past five years. Sounds very fishy. With the Directv, the technician that re-mounted my dish the day before didn't lock the the dish tuner into place so it moved slightly and wasn't pick up a couple of satelitte signals. Luckily I had the guys cell number and he came out the next day. I am pretty sure if I would have scheduled an appointment with directv customer helpline line they would have taken a week to come out and fix their own fuck-ups.

Glad to see that everything is ok.Some of those tech guys that come out to the house will cut you some slack and fix things for you.I had my phone box on the house screwed up 2 times and they finally put a new box on after i told them the old one was shot from bees getting into the box but they said it was my problems but the phone guy took care of me and said he will say it was there problem and was very nice about it and it was his last stop for the day so maybe that helped.Glad to give you some help about this.Gravy :103631605
