I know it sounds like a dumb idea but...I've made a habit over the years to take my local and his wife out for dinner or something cool at the end of the year.

My buddy who caps with me decided to flip the bill to a nice dinner at Mortons this past weekend. We all had a good time and pretty much came to a consensus that we're all on the Colts without question. We enjoyed ourselves and we toasted to a good season.

Last year i decided to get him a box of Opus X's.

I know I'll probably get egg faced by some on this board. lol but to me its about being thankful for the service. This guy takes a shit load of calls starting Wed nights all the way into Monday. He's never been late once through all the years I've played with him.

Any of you do favors for your locals during good seasons?

If I am picking up money from him, and we meet at a bar, I'll usually offer to buy him a beer. But that's about it.

Good idea.... maybe he won't break your legs when you lose your ass on the Colts.... just a finger or two.

Seems this thread won't get a whole lot of response as if we all had a local then you wouldn;t see all these post about

"How do we get paid" or "will my bank cash this check"

Your local prolly laughs about you buying him dinner. If you are making bank, he is making even more.

Two theories with this...

#1...Once had a guy who was a real prick when I first started in college....middle aged man.........He'd be real sarcastic when I was losing and crack jokes. I hated the dude and wanted to smoke him but never idid b/c I bet smaller in college. Funny thing is one week when I went to collect.......he quit booking and his wife left him b/c he told me the "sharps" hit him one week during football for $150 K!!!

#2...Had an old timer who was real cool. Had set hours and was always there. No BS. Met at bar and he'd buy drinks and tell stories of gamblings past.....I enjoyed this and talking to him.

#3....Had a guy and his son who knew I was middling games with their rusty ass lines. Beat him three weeks in a row for a lot (while I had to pay it to the other man...didnt mine giving it to the old timer though)Went to pick up money at their shop and got screamed at by the guy saying he was done with me that they cant beat me. I asked him what he was talking about and he told me to get the F out of the shop and don't call anymore.........Funny now, but I thought I was gonna get the crap kicked out of me then!

So, I guess it basically boils down to the type of person your man is.

Yea...as far as my local. He's a pretty straight up guy. In the 5 years I've played through him he's never paid late. One weekend in 03 I hit him hard for a little over 10k. (thats a lot for me) Didn't even blink. Same time, same place (his house), and not a penny short.

Yea hes no where near a prick. Matter of fact on occasion cuz he knows i'm primarily a contrarian player, he lets me know if hes even heavy on one side. Haven't kept track but i know over time, more times than not we've both won.
