considering nobody is watching the game, and they have no TV contracts they must be making money somehow?

this is also an indication of the incredible amounts of money that the NFL, MLB and NBA must be making?

what is the salary cap in the NFL currently?

if I remember correctly, Vegas Vic told me he got the pens at more than 250/1 this past summer at the Hilton in Las Vegas.

did you mean to post 100/1? because you posted 10/1.... 100/1 would be +10000

102 million for 2006 season going to 109 million for 2007

And the NBA has a 65 million cap this season

The tax level for the 2006-07 NBA season has been set at $65.42 million. Any team whose team salary exceeds that figure will pay a $1 tax for each $1 by which it exceeds $65.42 million.

thanks wrigley....

isnt that amazing? the NHL is so close to the NBA and NFL yet apparently nobody watches?

very confusing? :ughhh:

either NFL and NBA players are being greatly UNDERPAID, or NHL players are being greatly OVERPAID... but something doesnt jive here.

Lets not forget, the NFL roster is much bigger than the NHL roster so the salary cap of over 100 million isnt exactly as high as it might seem when compared to NHL.

The NHL survives off their gate receipts which with most of their franchises is very good night in and night out. Sky high ticket prices along with expensive consessions are what keeps the league afloat. The NHL is very popular in pockets of the US and almost all of Canada. The game has never been TV friendly.

And of course baseball has no salary cap, just the luxury tax.
----------------------------------
Currently there is no salary cap in baseball. The players union and owners recently agreed on a new collective that runs through 2011. In 2006 any team over $128 million payroll threshold had to pay a luxury tax of percentage the difference between their payroll and the threshold. The luxury tax was designed to create competitive balance in baseball. Teams such as New York and Boston pay this luxury tax if they exceed the threshold and the payment is spread out amongst the small market owners. If the luxury tax was implemented to create a competitive balance then why is there no parity in baseball? The small market owners have not re-invested their earnings from the luxury tax into fielding competitive team; the luxury tax earnings get pocketed.

agreed wil, but other leagues get a good gate aswell as all the TV deal money, which makes me suprised how the NHL salary cap is so close to the other leagues.

Actually its the NHLPA that is claiming the cap should go to 48 million next season a source from the Oilers would like to see it drop to 40 million stay tuned.... or did something happen since Feb. 9th

NHLPA wants cap increase to 48 million for next season
Associated Press
2/9/2007 12:53:23 PM

The belief that next year's salary cap will increase to upwards of $48 million was one of the topics discussed in a meeting between the National Hockey League Players' Association and a group of NHL player agents.

According to sources inside the meeting, the union also contends current gate receipts and hockey-related revenues show the cap could climb to as high as $62 million by 2010 if revenues continue to stream at the same pace.

However the Edmonton Oilers, for one, have great concerns about an escalating cap and would feel much more comfortable with a system that dropped to $40 million.

According to the numbers supplied to the player agents, that's not going to happen.

What was also pointed out by the NHL in this annual gathering was the fact that one-third of the league's revenue is generated by the six Canadian teams.

So SS what happens if the NHLPA and NHL dont agree on if the cap should go up, down or stay the same who decides? could this cause a lockout or strike.

The NHL probably makes a decent amount off the playoffs. I don't watch regular season at all but I watch some playoff hockey it can be exicting even for someone who really doesn't watch much hockey.

The thing about hockey is people who like hockey are extermely loyal fans, there aren't too many casual hockey fans like other sports. Its either you love hockey or you don't, no middle ground.
