Would you look at an athlete different if he admitted to being gay?

I just don't get the fascination with this subject ...as long as it isn't forced upon anyone or openly flaunted.

Amaechi admitted to having his gay friends sit in the team section and would hear cat calls during the game bout 'nice ass' from his gay friends...now that is wrong and where I could see problems.

A controversial subject at best, he went on to admit there are several gay NBA players playing in the leaguie currently.

Exactly. The thing is that many see sports and extremely manly and cant fathom that their favorite player doesn't really fit that mold.

The reason this is on the tube so much is because ESPN is publishing the book so they are in essence promoting.

Otherwise it would of been announced and an after thought by now.

I could care less either. If that guy can play then he can play. Just cause he's gay it doesn't mean he's going to hit on you if you're his teammate.

Also John Amechi said he has talked with a few active gay NBA players? Doesn't that make them even less comfortable that teammates are now going to be really wondering "Who is the gay one in the locker room?"

I would think some are already suspected by teammates, Amaechi said Ostertag came out and asked him...then again if he had homosexuals sitting in his team seats yelling 'nice ass' it wouldn't be too hard to figure out.

He said in the interview the less playing time he got the less he cared about anyone finding out....another words he knew his days were number was how I took it.

Once the whistle blows (so to speak), I don't think it matters one bit to most fans.

But I would have openly chuckled if Amaechi snuck in for a quickie behind Christian Laettner after a loose ball scramble.

If I was gay you'd bet I'd LOOK at them differently and probably become a BIGGER fan. Boing

The main reason they wont come out while playing is they throw any chance of endorsement out the window.. I could care a less but big time sponsors do.

If a big name like kobe or lebron came out im sure many endorsement contracts would go away for them.

I'd look at them differently for sure.

Everytime Marv says "He gives him a facial!" or "He takes it to the hole!" I'll probably fall to the floor laughing hysterically.

And everytime he pats someone on their butt I'd be thinking "Oh snap, he just made a pass at him!"

But if Kobe or Lebron came out, I don't think any of their advertisers would drop them. Then they would look anti-gay and would be subject of gay boycotts.

I agree. Another "ESPN created" issue is exactly what it is. I couldn't care less, but guys that have been in the locker room with him probably feel a little different.

I've worked with gay people before and you don't even think about it. What's the difference if you're gay or you eat ass or like golden showers or whatever? It seems that gays feel the NEED to be identified by their sexuality. They seem to be constantly bringing up their sexual identity while everyone else could care less at this point. It plays into the liberal mindset that people living mainstream lifestyles are brainless drones and anyone living some type of alternate lifestyle different from the mainstream is somehow more enlightened, virtuous and peaceful than the rest of us normal drones, and they should be listened to and treated with special care.

I agree with if your gay be gay and live your life.

If your pro-choice or pro-life thats fine too.

Just leave us all out of it.

The gays themselves are the only ones bringing it up. Amaechi is out of the league now, needs to make some cash, so he writes a book saying he's gay and somehow we are all supposed to be fascinated by it. I can see it now...Amaechi doing the talk-show circuit...The View, Larry King, Oprah, blah, blah, blah. It's enough to make you puke. Is it just me or is American culture at an all-time low right now?

A good % of WNBA players are gay and no big issues seem to be made wonder if they have separate showers.
