Haven't had much interest in the sport in many years but after The Sabres run last year in the playoffs I started watching them again. Only four or five years ago it looked like this team might even move out of town. Heck you could buy a ticket for 10 bucks from a scalper for just about any game. Boy have things changed. Last night I took my 15 year old down to HSBC and figured on an easy ticket. Week night game, 5 degrees out, 40mph winds, snow up the ass so plenty of tickets will be available. WRONG!! Hardly a ticket to be had. I guess I'll hit ebay next time. So we came home hung out and watched another Sabres OT victory. I have often poked fun here on The Rx in years past saying the NHL is unwatchable but I must say I am becoming an avid NHL fan once again.

Great to hear................

Have watched more than my share of SABRES games this year...........what an exciting team and one that the entire city of BUFFALO should be very proud of.

Attended the last Lightning game the last time that BUFFALO was in town and the SABRES were represented by their fans more than ANY team I've seen this year..........they were there in droves and it made for a great atmosphere inside the forum.

Lots of BUFFALO transits living in Tampa.........last evening at the game, many could be seen in between periods watching the Sabres in their Sabre sweaters.

I already have tickets for the next time BUFFALO comes to town and looking forward to it with great anticiapation.

The SABRES are for real!!

Has to be weird for Buffalo season ticket holders when teams like Toronto come to town. I picked up the first period last night and unless the TV channel piped in crowd noise - there sounded like a LOT of Edmonton fans in attendance. When Toronto comes to town, it might as well be a home game for them at times.

Yup...Hull "scored' it. Dumb rule at the time (toe in the crease BS). Nightmare for the league to have it decided like that.

All The Sabres season ticket holders sell their Toronto games at a huge profit. Makes for a fun atmosphere but you are correct it seems like half the building are Leaf fans.

Hate to say it, but this is a Nuggets town now.

:cryingcry

No offense to you - but that was predicted by many people (myself included) that as soon as Colorado entered any sort of rebuilding faze, the fans would lose interest fast. Doesn't help with 2 superstars dribbling for a franchise that suffered for so long. Hopefully Av's fans come back.

NBA has a better following in the States then Hockey and NHL probably wont be on network Tv in the near future after these ratings.

I like hockey but it has a cult following

2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs

When NBC went head-to-head with The NBA on ABC on May 7, 2006, ABC got a 4.3 (3.3 million households) rating whereas NBC got a 0.9 (693,000 households) rating.[1]

The first round of ratings for the 2006 playoffs on NBC were down between 13% and 19% from two years earlier on ABC, and the regular season ratings were more dismal still.

The May 13, 2006, Carolina-New Jersey game on a Saturday afternoon had fewer viewers than the surfing competition that was its lead-in.

More people watched a poker event that particular weekend than watched that hockey game. NBC's 1.1 average rating for the 2006 NHL playoffs was 21% lower than ABC's pre-lockout average of 1.4 in 2004.

2006 stanley cup finals on NBC

For Game 3 of the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals, NBC got a 1.7 overnight rating, with one point equaling 1% of the United States' 77 million overnight TV households. Out of four television networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX) NBC came in dead last.

Game 4 (June 12) earned NBC another fourth place (technically, fifth place if you count cable TV TNT the season premiere of The Closer) finish fourth overall. Game 4 got a 2.6 rating.

Game 7 earned NBC a 3.3 rating and 6 share. That was down by 21percent from Game 7 in 2004 -- the last season before the lockout.

In 2004, the Tampa Bay Lightning's Game 7 victory over the Calgary Flames had a 4.2 rating and a 7 share on ABC.

No SS, Dallas didn't WIN.

The 99' Cup finals was to sports what the 00' election was to politics --

the largest frauds in their respective histories with both appointing Texans to the top.
