I personally think certain people love it when certain others lose or have a bad run. The crowd seems to be much younger then when I first came on board many years ago. Trash talking seems to be at an all time high, but that's just my opinion. We all have bad runs that's the way it goes. If you follow people blindly and then get pissed off because they lose that is your own fault. I personnaly miss the so called good old days here at The Rx. Just seems different to me now.

Thank you 5Teamparlay..

The biggest differance between today's Rx and the Rx. of a few years ago is traffic. Today we handle more than double the traffic than we did in February 2004, so naturally it is going to seem different.

Example of active threads from February 16th 2004:

February 16th. 2004

Offshore 77
Politics 10
Bookie Talk 6
Newbies 2
NFL 1
College Hoops 62
NBA 52
Hockey 1
Soccer 3
Baseball 7
International 4
Horse Racing 8
Poker Room 2
College Football 0
Rubber Room 10
TOTAL 255

Last nite's active thread count:

Offshore 88
Politics 22
Bookie Talk 26
Newbies 1
NFL 1
College Football 2
College Hoops 171
NBA 35
Hockey 31
Soccer 10
Baseball 6
International 4
Horse racing 8
Poker Room 6
Rubber Room 7
Tracker Room 24
Financial Room 4
Health and Fitness 1
Computer & Tech Help Room 2
Entertainment 1
Boxing / UFC 1
Nascar 3
Betting Exchanges 3
New OS 5

total 452

The biggest differenace has been our growth in the various sport forums. Yesterday was a relatively slow day (hardly any NBA because of all star break). The single day record for active threads is over 700 which happened one Sunday during the recent football season. We averaged around 550 active threads per day for the year 2006. In 2004 we averaged around 220 active threads.

An active thread is a thread that has at least one fresh post in it from the date in question.

I first started browsing here in early 2003. I find that things have gotten slightly worse but for a different reason than has been discussed so far.

The lowering of standards on advertisers has been very disappointing. TheRX has always been considered a bit of a shill forum but I don't recall the forum stooping so low in my early days as it has in the last year or so (and, judging by the banners at the top, continues to stoop).

The whole BETonSPORTS thing was the low point. It was bad enough that BOS was being endorsed to the membership in the first place, and then all the subsequent fudging/spinning by RX people after the shit hit the fan has left a very bad taste.

Too many 'People magazine' threads and not enough sports gambling discussions. Some times I think I am logging into a chat room for 10 year ols girls or something when I see...'Brittany into Rehab' and 'What is your favorite TV show' threads filling the board.
Its declined but still better than the 2 or three other gambling sites I frequent which have gone even further into declire.

Lurked quite a bit since 2001, forum hasn't really changed that much. I remember the days of Rodfather, Raiders, Co-Captain and others touting. Just as much flaming back then. Had Uncle Butternuts and JJGold around, very funny. Shrink was a drama queen. General was solid. Kodiak was accusing everyone of being a tout until he became one himself. When one leaves there will be others to step in. Since then Kojak, OMT, and Ace-Ace among others have been solid contributors. If anything Wil and other mods has cleaned up the place. That is a very good thing.

Groucho, maybe you forgot about Aces Gold and BetPanAm from the good old days.

The sponsers we have now are no worse and in many cases better that the books that were advertising on these forums in 2000, 2001, and 2002. Natrually many are the same books still in business.

The BetOnSports fiasco took the industry by surprise, not just The Rx.. No one (including The Rx.) was able to predict that a single arrest would bring down the entire family of books. Pinnacle closing it's doors to US residents was another surprise not many (if anyone) saw coming. Today the Rx. is in close contact with all of it's advertisers and when asked, immediately helps any Rxer that may have a problem with a sponser.

The biggest difference that I see, is the way in which the modertors handle the crowd. Back in the day, it was fairly common to see things get crusty in a hurry with not a whole lot of intervention from the mods. Move into the current state of the site, and you will not see anywhere near the same loose reins, i.e., reporting bashing to the mods button, etc. For me, could care less, I just come here looking for opinions and plays. I treat all who post as equal, my play is my loss, my wager amount is my business and so-forth. Overall, prefer this joint to the others out there, so in the bigger picture, it makes no difference to me.

The principal reason behind more moderating these days is that posters are not as tolerant as they used to be when the site had less members and was more like a clubhouse where the smaller numbers of posters knew each other (cyber wise) a little better and were less apt to complain when arguments broke out. These days we get complaints about posters bashing each other all day everyday and have to look into all of them and in many cases take action. Today's mods are closer to the so called "internet police" than they ever were.

1. More pessimistic threads which seems fully justified in view of recent developements like BOS robbery, Pinnacle and Neteller withdrawal and DOJ fears.
2. Less contests floating around which is probably due to $$ considerations.
3 As someone previously mentioned...... Less threads relating to gambling angles in proportion to soap opera type threads like Anna Nicole Smith, Britney Spears... etc. etc. ! JMHO

This has been debated a lot over the last couple of years and several new forums have been created to cut down on off topic threads here in the Offshore Forum. The debate runs about 50/50 for and against a more general tone to this forum. Take a look at my lists of forums from post #3. The Rx. has added ten new forums since 2004 to cover different topics that were getting lumped together here in The Offshore Forum. Unfortunately for the most part these new forums only see a few new threads a day.

Sometimes I genuinely think that people enjoy when others lose or go on horrible streaks. I'm sure they wouldn't enjoy it if it happened to them so why enjoy such tough streaks of others?

Was thinking the exact same thing when I wrote this thread.

Didn't realize that. I don't follow all of his plays. I look at some of the peoples leans and go from there. The difference is, if I lose, I don't go into the threads and remind them of it like many others. That happened back in 2001 also.

I like the way things are now, but i browse less and less the picks in the sports forum, i only check spreadbeater right now, to know which side he likes if he has something. I even stopped following AA since week 2 (nfl) and never even looked back, never faded him either. I like the entertainment value of threads, the betting talk, the sports talk, the poker talk, the OT stuff, it's all good. I dont even find too much bashing to be going on, its all fun. The RR is great too.

Also railbirds heads up are solid for me, not that good lately, but i do have more memory than a goldfish.

I'd like to share some more with the forum but i have little to contribute right now as i bet in play without really formed opinions, trying to take value and ride the momentum, then balance my book, go in again... I've never beaten the -110 betting, never. Following many cappers or just a couple, doing my thing, so I stopped 6 months ago about 30 units down (pinny). Have a large bankroll now and planning to set some aside and bet spreadbeater religiously, and see how it goes, as a separate thing to my own betting.

The RX is great for me, and i only am active at 2 forums, its a rarity for me to get involved really. The other place i just scan for info.

sad but true, nobody wants to hear about a winner, yet if someone mentions they're down on their luck the thread will last for days.

I get tired of seeing certain posters only admit when they win as if they never get hammered , it's so obvious too.
