It costs too much to produce each episode. About 1-2 million dollars. They wanted the show to be a miniseries but due to high popularity, they extended it. But just like Carnivale, it's getting the axe due to production costs. I think the series ends on the note of Octavian becoming Augustus for the Golden Age of Rome.
