I would think poker player would be 10x easier than sports betting overall, just for the fact that if you win a couple big tournaments in a month, that could make up for a year or more of sports betting, right?.

My point is if you never bet nor played poker and wanted to start one, knowing what you know now what would you choose to be a sports capper or a poker player...If you could ONLY choose one.

And what classifies as professional?

After years of watching WS of Poker on ESPN... I tried my hand at it on Bodog....... after two days and losing $1k, I stopped. Anyone seen a fish? Oh yeah that's me.

Haha, I am a relatively good sports bettor but did the same thing. Not a pro or anything but I do well enough at sports betting. Anyways, I dabbled with poker and was losing money pretty quick. I sucked so I quit after a month or so.

honestly think there is way more luck involved in being good at Poker then Sportsbetting. In cash games you don't need to be as lucky but tournaments absolutely. Much more luck needed in poker, particularly online, then pros will have you believe.

Did any of you guys really try? I guarantee when you started betting sports you did just as bad. It just takes experience.

Nobody likes to just throw money away. Of course I tried. Just not a good player. Poker isn't for everyone. Oh and your sports statement is true for most but I started very well in sports actually. That's why I started betting in the first place. I saw a lot of beatable boxing lines. Then again that could contribute to my impatience with being a decent poker player. Regardless, it just wasn't for me.

You really think a month is trying? I played 4 losing years until I actually made any real money.

Sure, sometimes I think a person can tell relatively quick if they are going to be good at something.

what about a choice of:

Pro Poker player

Pro Sports bettor

Pro Trader (commodities/stocks)

i go back and forth with this all the time......... fairly good at all 3 and have ample experience in all 3 but do not have the time for all 3 nor would i desire to do all 3......

pro poker player, i simply do not have the time to put into this........ i would love to think that i would but i know deep down that i dont have the necessary time.......

pro sports bettor, definatley think that i could do this but with the offshore world (the way it is now),,,,,,, im not comfortable with huge amounts there and the moving around is getting more difficult......

pro trader, is where im currently putting my time/effort and money these days..........

although id love to combine the trading and sports by the mlb season.....trading in the day and sports in the evenings......

the chances of winning a big poker tournament and cashing in on alot of money is about the same as hitting a huge parlay and getting a big payday. In the long term if you are +ev than you are +ev. There are no simple ways to beat either (IMO).

the Q was somebody who knew neither what would be the quickest to learn.....

someone who has no sports background could NEVER be a good handicapper..you can learn poker, its been done...sportsbetting is wayyyyy more complicated and without assistance from someone already doing it correctly i dont think it could be learned just by reading books or forums....

mechanical systems could be used........ or do like ice, just beat the closing number.......

with these, you need to know nothing about sports......

just was going to type the same thing. I honestly can't name 5 college hoops players. I can't stand the sport anymore and it is my #1 sports.

Have system or indictors in place to help you make decisons. If you are doing something that has shown a profit longterm than if you bet within your bankroll you should win eventually.

As far as poker that is too tough for me to beat my competition. I guess if you play in a game you can continously beat than that will show longterm profit.

I will say sports but it sure seems like most people that win, win at poker (or so they claim).
