He of the 58-82 record in 9 years as a head coach...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...Whormoan, tell me again how AJ knows football guys. Looks like Jimmy Johnson has more pull with the Spanos than AJ Smith.

I'll say this, you are really going to have to fuck things up bad to lose with this group. Or have a lot of injuries. The Chargers are the most talented team in the AFC. Ted Cotrell rumored to come in and take over the defense.

Wow, what a way to cap off a 14-2 season. Lose in the first round of the playoffs, lose both coordinators and several key coaching spots, then fire your head coach after all the good candidates are off the board, then hire one of the biggest losers ever.

GO CHARGERS!

Edit...Sorry I forgot to post a link, but its at fox sports and others. I'll hold out hope this is just a rumor and either Ryan, Singletary, or Rivera get hired.

Sucks for the Chargers, and ironically, sucks for the Niners. He did a good job as O coordinator because....HE WASN'T THE HEAD COACH.

He seems to be much better suited to run and offense and not an entire team...It would be pretty hard to F this job though.

The San Diego Chargers have their new head coach and it's the man everyone thought was going to be head coach of Dallas.

FOXSports.com has learned that the Chargers have tabbed 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner as their new head coach. Turner went to San Diego late last night to work out a deal with the team.
General Manager A.J. Smith held talks with Turner late last night and ironed out a deal. This morning Turner informed his current boss Mike Nolan that he did in fact have the job and was moving on.

FOXSports.com first reported the Chargers direction at about midnight Sunday.

In addition to Turner, sources contend that Turner is leaning toward hiring Ted Cottrell, a long-time defensive NFL coach, to run the Chargers defense. Cottrell worked in the league office this past season but is one of the best minds in the league in running a 3-4 scheme.

Oddly, early yesterday based off of different information, Rex Ryan appeared to be the leading candidate to get the job. What or if anything happened to change that remains to be seen.

Turner was long assumed to be the man the Jones' boys hired to replace Bill Parcells as head coach but the Cowboys sent Turner back to the Bay without a new job or a new title. That title and job may now come three weeks later in the best city in American to "have to" work in — sunny San Diego.

Turner was the Charger's offensive coordinator for LaDainian Tomlinson's rookie year and now will be in charge of an offense that needs to find even more ways for Tomlinson to work his magic.

Turner was extremely close to the Cowboys gig that eventually went to Wade Phillips, the man Cottrell may replace in San Diego now.

Calls to Smith and Turner were not returned.

confirmed now that norv was the choice. shit hire imo, but not much for choices out there. maybe aj smith wants a puppet hc.

chargers may end up being an average 8-8 team under turner now.

Shitty hire, but better than Bozo the Carroll who by the way wanted this job badly and lobbied for it (quietly). Thus, you never heard him denying interest a la Saban. At least Carroll's record didn't fool Smith.

This is 1 of the few guys that will get the most out of these Chargers. Great offensive mind and that's got to be a gain over the last head coach they had.
