Barbary Coast to become Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon

Published February 7th, 2007 in Las Vegas News
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Harrah’s plans to change Barbary Coast’s name to Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon after taking ownership from Boyd Gaming. The new name is apparently a tribute to Harrah’s founder Bill Harrah.
Boyd Gaming is trading Barbary Coast to Harrah’s for the land where Westward Ho formerly stood. The Nevada Gaming Control Board has recommended approval by the Nevada Gaming Commission of the transaction.

Update: The Review Journal now has a few more details.

Some jagoff get paid to come up with that name? And he is still employed?

Presto,
It was named Bill's because Harrah's already had that trademarked due to a Bill's in Tahoe.

GD I admit not knowing much about Reno or the casino business for that matter. But now that Westward Ho is defunct, did Harrahs feel the need to have at least one property on the strip with a retarded name?

Barbary Coast wasn't the greatest name, but it did have a certain ring to it.

The center strip:
Caesars, Paris, Bally's, Venetian, Mirage, Flamingo, Bellagio, and now Bills Gamblin' Hall & Saloon. :WTF:

Presto,
Not at all arguing about the retardedness of the name. That is your opinion (and would be mine on the matter if I was allowed to have one). Just giving you the background on the reasoning. Barbary Coast was intellectual property of Coast Resorts, thus why they had to change it.

Appreciate the info, GD. That part about having to change the name might be mentioned somewhere, but I didn't read it.

GD, once Boyd gaming get the Ho/Stardust redeveloped it would seem to make sense to redevelop Harrahs block from Flamingo Ave. all the way up to Harrahs.

Any rumours about this you'd care to share?
