Who the hell does that? I'm from Nebraska and everyone in this state bleeds Husker red. My friends just scheduled their wedding for the USC/Nebraska football game. Why would anyone put their friends and family in a situation where you must choose them, or football? There is no way I'm going to the reception even if there was a 20-foot projector screen displaying the game. It is just unbeilavable that people can be so stupid... both of them grew up in Nebraska and know that it is a religion here.

My question is, what team/sporting event would you not be able to miss for one of your best friends weddings? (you are not a groomsman, and you creativelly hinted that you did not want to be an usher)

I could just about miss any if it was a really good friend.

Now, if the Bengals made it to a superbowl, that would be different.

Well, if they had their heart set on a fall wedding, it would have been better to schedule it on a bye week since saturday is really the only sensible day for a wedding. Kinda pointless anyway because we both know they will end up getting divorced so this whole thing will be a waste of time plus USC will win by 20.

Not even close to as bad as a husker home game against USC. I don't think you quite understand.

When I lived in Lincoln there was a small percentage of men who weren't Husker fans. Perhaps your friend is one of them and didn't care about the game and didn't care about others missing the game. Or perhaps he's too much of a pu$$y to say no to his fiance in which his life will be either a life with a short marriage to this girl or else a life of subservience to her.

Did that small percentage of men, by coiincidence, prefer interior decorating shows?

i would go to the football game. Screw their wedding. When people get married they never realize how they are inconveniencing their friends and family. I hate weddings. Wish everyone would freaking elope and save us time and aggravation and money!

I'd strongly consider not going if the yanks were in a world series game. Any other event who cares?? Weddings only happen once, and you can get obsurdy drunk for a $50 gift, and it's 99% chance you're gonna find yourself a desperate lady (or girl!) to bring back to the hotel.

Just to clarify:

Last year a good friend of mine was getting married on the day of the Iowa State football game. I always go to Ames for the game and was bummed that it fell on the same day. Instead of going to the game I flew to Chicago for the wedding. The groom, thankfully, is a big Husker fan and conveniently had tv's placed directly outside of the reception hall. Even the groom's dad kept grabbing beer and sneaking outside to watch the game.

This is the USC game though!! I mean, this opportunity comes once a decade at best (playing number one team in the country). If it were ANY other game, I could probably sacrifice a Husker game day. We won't be favorites for the game and we very well could lose, but there is that small chance that we beat these guys and if I wasn't there to rush the field it would live with me the rest of my life.

And my friend is not a very big Husker fan, and his fiancee is crazy and has always wanted a September wedding... she picked the date and he was too whipped to understand.

Royalfan- didn't this happen to you for the Notre Dame game with Heidi's wedding?

Nebraska is my favorite team as well. My cousin had her wedding at the same time Nebraska played ND at ND I believe Sept 8. I did the right thing and skipped the wedding. No brainer.

About 10 years ago, after going to 3 football saturday weddings, I made an announcement. At my age, I would NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER waste another football saturday to go to wedding! I meant it then and I have steadfastly been true to my proclamation. I don't have many football saturdays left in my miserable life and I will not waste even one to go to a FRIGGIN WEDDING on a football saturday!

I have missed a few and made some friends unhappy but Tough Crap! LT:ohno:

It was at ND when we won in OT when Crouch ran in for a TD. We got beat fora coupleof Punt returns forTd's that day. But we won and beating ND was great. Great minds think alike about these weddings.
